Norton was my first anti-virus and it was usually available free after rebate so out of convenience I kept it for several years. When I built my new computer back in December it included a free version of Norton which just expired so it is now time to try something else. Following a few suggestions here and some research I am now using Avast. Funcionally I have not really noticed anything (well no more popups from Norton about some sort of Passport thing). The slowing down effect of Norton was more noticable on my old machine- the new quad core can handle a lot more at the same time. I did go to Symantec and get their uninstaller to try to clean out the bits so I should be good to go. No problems so far.
