Looking closer, you can get a better value by upgrading from the starter level! They both come with the 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, both come with the dual layer DVD burner. The difference is with the memory and the hard drive. You can upgrade the hard drive to the same 320GB hard drive as the midlevel "Productivity" laptop for $50 or leave it as I would. (250GB is plenty for a laptop) Upgrade the memory through Crucial - you can get just one 2GB stick for $25.99 (add it to the 1 of the 1GB on the laptop to make the 3GB like the midlevel Productivity configuration) for half the same price as what Dell would charge you, or just upgrade to the full 4GB capacity for $51.99 (which is $1.99 more than what Dell would charge you to upgrade to 3GB).

Update 2: Since they give you such a great starting point, I would upgrade the display since (to me) that's more important than a processor upgrade between a 1.8GHz and 2.0GHz. The 15.4" UltraSharp WXGA+ LCD TRUELIFE display for $50 is hot and is a must do at this price. But for me, I would go all the way and get the whopping WUXGA upgrade for $150, again, only because the starting price is so good to begin with.
