5th day today and I am holding up good. My sister and mother have been hounding me for months about my gut, which has gotten out of hand. I finally got disgusted enough to start the diet.
The first 12 days are the most restrictive, much like the Atkins diet. A friend of mine lost 35 pounds in 3 or 4 months. If it hadn't been for his success, I don't know what I would have done.
I would like to lose about 15-20 pounds. I hope the gut goes first, but I hear it is the last to go.

yah, i got tired of my gut also. I'm not on any kind of diet (tho i would like to). But i've been eating more fruits and vege's and hitting the exercise bike for 35-45 minutes every night. I don't weigh myself (too depressing), but now i started using a belt for my pants, and i've gained one more belt loop, in the past 3 months, so i guess that means i'm losing?
good luck on your diet...do update us!

Don't know much about the South Beach diet, but is it sustainable? People I know who have done Atkins either gain and lose tons of weight when the keep going on or off of it, or just go off of it for good.

Yes, I know people who gained it right back. I hope if I lose the gut, it will inspire me to eat less crap. I have really been chugging the wrong kind of foods and drinks lately.

Three weeks tomorrow. I am actually losing my gut. My sister who is my worst critic is impressed.

I just wonder about the long term viability of these "shock your body" diets. If you're willing to stay on it for the rest of your life then it's probably ok. If you're using it to achieve your ideal weight and then go back to the old habits, it's just a vicious cycle that almost never ends and is worse on your body had you never done it in the first place.
Little changes in diet and exercise over the long term is the best way to go. It's more about lifestyle change than it is the current fad diet.
