Woohoo! I've been waiting all my life for the Bears to get a top-tier quarterback!

Guess you'll have to keep waiting. This is an incredibly dumb move by the Bears. Cutler may have the physical tools but apparently has some serious character flaws as demonstrated by the way he has handled this entire situation.

Considering the red flags associated with him, it is really tough to believe that they gave up Orton and 2 first round picks. I think that is a huge price to pay.

Weakness at the quarterback position has been a thorn in the side of the Bears for all recent history. Orton has not been a reliable starter - I see trading him off for a quality qb as a good move.

I think Cutler needs Torry Holt

Recent history meaning, like, the last 30 years or so, at least?

I mean, really, I can't remember them ever having a strong quarterback back there, since I started getting into football as a kid back in '83 or so. Even Jim Mcmahon was just mediocre, a "game manager" as he'd be called today. They won with the best defense in history up to that point, and a big running attack a la Walter Payton.

I don't disagree but giving up this year's #1 and #3 and next year's #1 for a QB that so far is nothing more than Jeff George is a lot.

I'm not saying it won't work out for the Bears in the long run but Cutler has some obvious maturity and leadership issues and Orton actually played relatively well last year.

Comparing their stats from last year Cutler had a better year statistically on the surface but also threw the ball far more. He had a better yards/attempt number at 7.35 vs 6.39 but Orton's 26 attempts per TD and 38.75 attempts per INT versus Cutler's 24.5 attempts per TD and 34 attempts per INT were far worse. Cutler also was only sacked 11 times while Orton was sacked 27 times.

It's a great idea if Cutler ends up being a star QB but thus far his numbers aren't all that much better than Orton's. Add to that the fact you are picking up a guy who seems like a head case.

:stupid:

I wouldn't want him on my team even if we still had Mark Malone or Bubby Brister - at least not at that price. Personally, I think I would have offered them conditional offer (e.g. If Cutler gets into the pro bowl then they get a first round pick). There is no way he is worth what they paid. Denver is on their way to rebuilding with that trade. Chicago is on their way further down.

Also, I agree with the head case assessment. You take all of that into account and couple it the "price" and it is way too high in this market. Chicago got the short end of that stick.

and you just added O. Pace. nice pickup for the team. now you just need to make devin hester a regular starting receiver and throw him long balls all day. it will be like the days of Curtis conway and Erik Kramer

I bet the fans give Cutler PURE HELL all season long for the whiny crybaby tantrum he threw in Denver.

Good move for the bears. I hope they make a new Superbowl shuffle when they get the title.

As I said,

THAT defines "recent history". ;)

Denver won't miss him that much. He had a decent season last year but was still inconsistant. Then there was that bit after the season was over when he moaned that he was worried that the team wanted to trade him (they said no) and then he whined that they weren't willing to trade him. Denver still does not seem to have recovered since John Elway retired ten years ago. I don't beleve they have won a playoff game since he took them to the Super Bowl that year.

New coach and new QB next year- maybe they will make the playoffs. I would not expect much more than that at this point.

Orton will be a serviceable QB. He was actually very good last year until he injured his ankle and was inconsistent the rest of the season.

Denver has some very good young receivers but need a starting RB. They also had a porous defense last year. They should be able to really improve that defense over the next 2 years with all of the draft picks they acquired through the Cutler deal. This is the type of deal that allows an organization to reload for the future if they draft well.
