View Full Version : Baking Soda & Pet Odors
Previous person that lived here had an untrained pet who made some pretty bad and foul-smelling stains all over the carpet of one room. Can I use baking soda on it and leave it for an extended period of time (a month+) before vacuuming without the baking soda having any adverse effects on the light tan color carpet?

I think your only real option is to replace the carpet. Not sure there's a good way to get that smell out.

My wife uses something call Natures Miracle I think. You can pick up gallons at PetsMart or Petco.

Second Natures Miracle. Follow the directions fully! You may even have to lift the carpet and treat the subfloor if it's wood.

there a good chance you may need to remove the carpet and pad and seal the floor with thompsons water sealer or another brand.

Isn't there also some product out there (with the name Urine in it) that helps this?
*** If I ever invented something like this, I'd call it "Piss Off"

if its a concrete floor under the carpet look for a good concrete sealer to seal the smell. a good carpet deep cleaning may remove the smell if done a couple of time. best of luck to you.if you find pulling the carpet the padding is heavly stained then just pull it all up and seal the floors if wood you may need to paint them with stain kill paint before installing new pad and carpet.
Thank you all for the suggestions. My lease will be ending very soon, so with the extra baking soda I have on hand, I'm hoping to use it on this temporarily. Just need to know if it's safe to leave on the carpet for a while.
