So if I want to plug 2 devices (using RCA composite cables) into the only available composite section on a TV, is this the proper adapter to get?

(Or will I lose a part of the signal by reversing it's intended use?)

No, that typically won't work. It's a cheap experiment though.

You probably want something more like this.

Of course you'd only use 3 of the six inputs per input source.

do they make anything (cheap) that'll solve my issue?

You mean besides the <$20 remote operable box I mention in my post? ;)

I don't recall seeing that in there. Did you add to it as I was posting my message?

In any case, that won't work, as that's component, not composite video.

But, I did find something that should work:

Silly me should have remembered the concept of a video "switchbox" from my friends house a LONG time ago. I gotta get my g/f to buy a more modern TV.

Thanks for the help.

The component switch box will work just fine. You just won't use all the inputs. Plus you get to operate it with a remote unlike the cable's direct box.

Yeah, I guess that's the reverse that's not true. In any case, I don't think she wants another remote lying around. Thanks for the help man.

Also, if you have a "Big Lots/Odd Lots" store near you, I bought a manual switch just like those listed above for around $10.

:stupid:

Big Lots is great for stuff like that, especially cables, mice, etc.

There are no additional remotes required. I believe you can program this switch to respond to your existing remote.

It's been over for about 5 months. :(

I don't get why the 60 cent device wouldn't work. It's a signal splitter (or combiner, depending). As long as only 1 device is sending a video signal at any time, it should work fine. If both are sending a signal, it'll still work, just not the way you want it to.

You can certainly try it. It might work. It also might work but degrade your picture. There's a decent chance it won't work because the output of one of your devices might act as a drain on the output of the other device. You could lose enough signal to degrade or to kill your image.
