Need someone's help:
I recently got an AT&T @home cable modem installed. I noticed after the installation, that my MS Sidewinder Gamepad (connected to the game port) wasn't working anymore. To be honest, I don't know if the installation caused the problem since I hadn't used the gamepad for a couple of weeks before the installation. My Thrustmaster Charger Steering Wheel though works when I connect it, but my 2nd MS Sidewinder doesn't work.
The gamepad light comes up green indicating that the gamepad is plugged in correctly. The System Device Manager indicates that the gameport is functioning properly. I have done the following already without success:
1. Reinstalled the upgraded gamepad software.
2. Reinstalled the gameport software.
3. Upgraded my SoundBlaster Audio PCI64D Driver.
4. Upgraded to ActiveX 8.0.
5. Gone through the Microsoft troubleshooting guide for this problem on their web site (http://support.microsoft.com/support/hardware/sidewinder/swtshoot/common/not_comp.asp) The only thing that I couldn't do was change the I/O Range to 0201-0201 on the Gameport Resources area because it wasn't listed. I have no idea how to get my soundcard to change this range.
I have a Gateway with the SoundBlaster card integrated onto the motherboard running on Win98. Gateway had no clue what to do with it. They're sending me a brandnew motherboard, but I doubt that it's actually a defaulty hardware problem. (Free motherboard for me though.) The AT&T people don't think it's their problem because the cable modem is USB and shouldn't have affected the PCI slots.
If someone could lend me some help on how to fix this problem, I'd greatfully appreciate it.
