Ugh I hate Vista. I recently downloaded the SP2 for Vista and either I uninstalled AVG or tried to upgrade it. AVG game me a message saying it expired. So I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. Once it was finishing downloading, I couldn't click on the executable in my download dialog box or open the folder where it was saved. I did a search for the folder and Vista couldn't find the file. So I tried uninstalling AVG using CCleaner since it wasn't a clean uninstall but CCleaner asked for an update. So sure I download the latest CCleaner and the same issue. Downloaded the file but I can't run the executable. What the heck is happening here? I'm thinking of blowing it away and installing XP-PRO now.
Have you run a spyware program on your computer? It sounds like your computer has been hijacked and won't let you install/run any type of antivirus program.
Is this only happening with AV programs/Windows updates, or all executables?

when you download, can't you choose which folder it's saved to?
pick a folder and use explorer to get to it.
or, download another browser, put it on a usb key, and open it from there, and never touch ie ever again.

I've tried and it doesn't work. I've used IE, FF and Chrome. I ended up moving my important files to an external Hard Drive and then restore to factory settings from the boot up. Then I let Vista install 56 updates to itself overnight.
