Google isn't for everyone. I have friends who were with Google before IPO, and left post-IPO because the culture there shifted so much they didn't enjoy work anymore.

Sure, but they were probably rewarded quite well in the process. That's preferable to the consulting I did at eBay where we were working 100+ hour weeks and NOT getting equity.
