WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday (http://apnews.myway.com//article/20090813/D9A23P580.html). He was 94.
I cannot imagine how different music would have been over the course of the last fifty years had Les Paul not existed.

one of my heroes.

Not only was he a brilliant guitarist, but also an electronics wizard. He came to Gibson to market his invention of putting a microphone under a log and putting strings across it. And now we have the guitar that bears his Name.
Among his many other inventions and innovations was the very first 4-track recorder. PBS had a special, they showed it - a MONSTER machine (that STILL worked!).
overdubbing and multi-layer tracks? he pioneered them.

One of my biggest regrets was not seeing him perform. Every Monday in NYC at the Iridium.... no more....

Tonight i will be turning up my tube amps and playing with my guitar. i cant play like him, but i will play for him.
