Found out today. Got it from a friend. Thought people need to know fast.

It is CONFIRMED that TDK is NOT honoring the $50 rebate for purchases (between 01/01/01 - 03/31/01) of the 12x/10x/32x VeloCD from Buy.com

I called the rebate center of TDK (1-800-835-8273) and I spoke with a person named Diane Wilshire. She specifically stated that Buy.com WAS a 'Participating Retailer' up until the rebate ended on 12/31/00, but chose to NOT be when they extended the rebate. This makes no sense, but the fact remains.

I also called Buy.com (1-888-880-1030) and spoke to an Eric, said he wasn't allowed to give last name, who did say he was a 'Resolution Specialist' in the Oklahoma office. He was miffed to why they were no longer a participation retailer as well and said he would investigate the matter and get back to me.

Call #3 Went to Citibank to dispute the $50 rebate. They put the dispute on record and will investigate. In the meantime they've already issued me $50 credit! This is where the importance of having a reliable CC company comes in yet again!

I urge everyone to put a call in to your CC company to protect yourself. I will post an update if and when I hear from 'Eric' at Buy.com (unless this thread gets locked, then feel free to PM me and I'll update you specifically), but at this time my confidence in getting the rebate is EXTREMELY low

A little more to add to the saga. I called buy.com and spoke with a Gregg. He researched the issue and said their technical department did have a rebate on the site but that it expired on Dec 31, 2000. I am not sure if I printed the rebate at buy.com or if I followed the gotapex link to the rebate and printed that version which has the dates of 1/1/01 - 3/31/01. I was told that buy.com did not post a rebate after Jan 1. Not sure about that. At any rate, I was told to send an e-mail to [email protected] telling him about the rebate on their site after Jan 1, 2001. Maybe if enough of us contact buy.com via e-mail they will do something.

Even though Citibank issued a credit while investigating the rebate, there is no guarantee they won't reverse it after they complete their investigation. Best to deal with buy.com I think. Mine is going back if they don't honor the rebate.

Product may be purchased from any participating retailer.

How the hell are we supposed to know who that is? This is going to piss me off!

Did you send in your rebate? If you didn't yet, all is not lost.

Yes I did. And I have proof that it never said anything about a participating retailer here:
http://www.rtnetwork.com/TDK%20CD-R%20Rebate.htm

I did not alter it and it was dl'ed on the 15th. And yes I have mailed it in.

Since you received the rebate without one that restricted the offer to participating stores, you may have a case to argue with TDK.

Here's another link for the rebate without restrtictions. I'm not losing any sleep over this. I'm sending mine in and fully expect to get the rebate.

Update: I called TDK and was passed on to Diane Wilshire also. She was very nice but said that they are NOT honoring invoices from BUY.COM because they chose to not participate when the rebate was extended. She is well aware of the problem but she is unsure what they OR BUY.COM are going to do.

You are all correct that the rebate does not say anything about specific retailers being excluded from the rebate. Grossly unfair to us consumers.

The only possible remedy is to call Diane @ 1-800-835-8273 and specifically ask for her. She will take your name, phone number, and e-mail address. They will then notify us all of what they decide.

Believe me when I say they ARE NOT honoring the rebate at this time. Make sure you call Diane - There is power in numbers. We need to all support each other. There will be a lot of good deals on 12x's now that the 16x's are out.

bought this. sent it in... calling now...

Ok.. Diane is very nice, but she basically said that I'd just have to wait and see what happens, because it's already in the mail.

I asked her if it made any difference if I hadn't sent it out, and she didn't really have any comment...

so basically, i'm going to call Amex, and have them fight over this...

My girlfriend just got a call from a TDK rep. The rep said that they WILL honor the rebate if you purchased the drive before January 22.

The new rebate address is:

TDK Rebate
901 Franklin Ave.
Garden City, NY 11530

hope this helps...
Bought mine on the 13th so I am covered!

When you say the new rebate address, does that mean thats where they have to go if you haven't already sent it? If thats the case, I already have sent it. Bought around the same time as you. Did you send yours already?

Ok, I just talked w/ Diane Wilshire. She said that they would honor the rebates for all burners purchased from buy.com on or before 1/21/01. However you have to use the correct rebate form as she said there are invalid ones floating around the internet. The form correct form is:

http://www.tdk.com/rebate/rebatevelo.html

Just fill it out and send it along w/ reciept and UPC code and you're good to go. The address she told me to send the stuff to is:

TDK Rebate
901 Franklin Ave.
Garden City, NY 11530

If you have questions give her a call at 1-800-835-8273. She was easy to work with.

That link is 404. But that is where I got mine from and mailed it to whatever address was on it. Is the address different then the one above?

Yeah, sorry about the link. I read her off the URL and she said it was the right one. Maybe they took it down? You are correct the address on the rebate form is completely different from the one she told me to send it to. The one on the form is supposed to go to PO BOX 52900 in Phoenix, AZ and she told me to send the stuff to the Garden City address mentioned above.
