VGA splitter and widescreen

I have a bit of an AV problem at work. We need to split a VGA connection coming off a PC. The VGA splitter we're using is a powered box, but it doesn't report back to the PC as being wide screen capable. Slowly, you lose your options on the display settings, and you're forced into 800x600 or 1024x768 - neither are widescreen.
Tried changing the driver, no avail. The only thing I can think of is the splitter isn't widescreen compatible.

(I hooked the PC directly to the monitor and it works fine, so the PC is able to project at the res I need.)

Anyyone have this issue before? Ever hear of a widescreen vga splitter?

Does the splitter support DDC? Is there a MHz spec on it?

I know back in the day there was a utility called PowerStrip -- and that would allow you to set custom resolutions.

Now, I know nVidia's control panel lets you assign custom resolutions. Not sure about ATi or onboard Intel graphics.

Yeah, the cool thing about powerstrip was that you could plug in your monitor and let it read in the DDC then put the splitter in and use the saved DDC.

Does the splitter support DDC? Is there a MHz spec on it?

Dunno...it's an inherited system from a long time ago. (Hence my predicament.)

I would also try powerstrip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm) or your own video card's version of it.
