Treated at hospital and released. He was said to be leaving his home in Florida at about 2:00 AM and hit a fire hydrant and a tree. His wife heard it, ran outside and used a golf club to break out the back window of the SUV and helped him out of the car. Reported bloody face and cut lip. Alcohol not beleived at this time to be involved. It is still being investigated.

Tiger Woods was injured early Friday when he lost control of his SUV outside his Florida mansion, and a local police chief said Woods' wife used a golf club to smash out the back window to help get him out.

The world's No. 1 golfer was treated and released from a hospital in good condition, his spokesman said. The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods' vehicle hit a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbor's yard after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25 a.m.

Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor told The Associated Press that officers found the 33-year-old PGA star laying in the street with his wife, Elin, hovering over him.

She told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and "came out and broke the back window with a golf club," he said. "She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground. He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there."

He said Woods had lacerations to his upper and lower lips, and blood in his mouth; officers treated Woods for 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was alone in his 2009 Cadillac when he pulled out of his driveway from his mansion at Isleworth, a gated waterfront community just outside Orlando.

The patrol reported Woods' injuries as serious, although Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan issued a statement that Woods was treated and released.

The patrol said alcohol was not involved, although the accident remains under investigation and charges could be filed.

Left unanswered was where Woods was going at that hour. Greenspan and agent Mark Steinberg said there would be no comment beyond the short statement of the accident posted on Woods' Web site.

Saylor said his responding officers did not hear anything about an alleged argument between Woods and his wife.

"Right now we believe this is a traffic crash. We don't believe it is domestic issue," patrol spokesman Sgt. Kim Montes said.

I guess Tiger and the Missus probably were having an argument before the accident based on that story about Tiger and a supposed affair he had with another woman.

I guess we'll have to see where this goes...

Yeah, definitely more to this story than was originally reported. Glad to hear that the injuries were minor. Hopefully nothing serious will come of it.

Hehe well I'd say both "more and less" as when it was FIRST reported, you'd think he was near death in the ICU. When in fact by the time it was reported he was most likely sound asleep in his bed at home.

In an effort to be the first outlet to report it, the accuracy of a story is no longer the priority.

Phil's never liked Tiger but this is kind of funny:

I'm glad he's okay. That's about the only thing that is important out of this "headline" if you can even call it that.

Media outlets are starving for good stories. Maybe they could start covering some of the Olympic stories...because I bet a lot of them are more intriguing than a golfer in a car accident.

I think Tiger is not helping himself much with his refusal to talk to the police and the bland info he has posted so far. Says he will skip his own tournament this week (raises money for his foundation) and won't do any for the rest of the year (well, it is December almost- that rules out only a few weeks) due to his injuries ("Tiger Woods Seriously Injured in Accident" was the original headline. . It is news for the lack of info plus Tiger's carefully controlled image- Mr Squeeky Clean isn't supposed to crash a car when he is the only one in it and nobody else on the road.

Hmm. I might have a picture of the guy I took a while ago (he didn't come to San Diego this past year for the Buick Invitational in January- will he return next year?).

I agree that he isn't helping himself much with the way the incident has been handled. By not coming out and saying what happened it has allowed the rumor mill to get spun up. He isn't required to divulge any info but this story has legs and I'd imagined you will see at least another twist or two. Possibly the truth would be even more a hit to his image but I don't think this is going to blow over.

I think he's hoping to just bunker down and make it all go away.

He underestimates the gossip machine that will undoubtedly refuse to let this story die. Not to mention the media whoring alleged mistress. She can't just give up her spotlight now.

Didn't she say she hadn't had a relationship with him? Could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Tiger isn't really used to all the scrutiny as he has been largely left alone for the most part.

Tiger's in big big trouble.

"Big big trouble" hehe with his Wife maybe.

Minor ticket for the 'accident' after his wife bashed his window with a golf club.

I guess it depends on your definition of big big trouble. He isn't going to take much of a hit for this in the long run. He'll keep his sponsors and keep winning golf tournaments. Heck, this may provide some motivation to hunker down and go on a big run in the majors this year.

Definitely some trouble at home but if he and his wife want to make it work they will. If not, they'll go their separate ways and both will do fine in the long term.

Now it just seems as if his wife is not gonna extort him some more by trying to revise the prenup they had. So much for "love" in a marriage... I guess it really is about "the money" huh?

Yeah... Tiger wouldn't be worth millions if she were not by his side. Jeez...

This is like watching a "lion kill" (except that it's a tiger...) where everyone is trying to sneak in and get a piece while the opportunity is open.

Sorry but I don't have a ton of sympathy here for Tiger. I think the guy is a great golfer but he has definitely been a jerk to his family. If they want to rework the prenup to "protect" her interests in the relationship then so be it. Nothing wrong with upping the ante if he can't keep it in his pants going forward. Who knows all the details of the situation but I don't see Tiger as the victim in this scenario. If he isn't happy with the agreement then he could walk away now and pay out whatever is required as part of the original prenup.

Well at least he finally came out and admitted the biggest details of what happened. The media will play with it for a while and he does have some serious issues to discuss with his family and lawyer but his career will continue.

Honestly, If I weren't happy and I was him... I'd walk now.

I sure wouldn't pay anyone to stay.

Honestly, he probably doesn't know what to think... with everyone coming in on him from all sides now.

Like chum in the water... and the sharks are gathering trying to get a bite in.

I'm sure it's tough for him since he is used to dictating everything and always being in control. It has turned into a media frenzy but that's what happens to celebrities when they get caught in lies. And as is usually the case, the wounds are self inflicted so it's tough to feel too bad for the guy. Now he's just like any other celebrity that gets caught up in some sort of scandal.

It shows us all that Tiger is human too which will probably endear him to some. As I mentioned before, I have to believe he will emerge on the other side of this and be better for it. If nothing else he will understand the fallout that can occur and either avoid those situations or become an even more private individual off the golf course (if that is possible).

DarkFury

Maybe so, but at this point... it just seems as if it is all about the money now...

(who can get their hands on some... and how much will Tiger be doleing out because of it...)

He ain't the first to cheat and won't be the last... but right now, he's the dish of the day for the media and the swirling "money sharks" that are now comin' on the scene to get a share.

Think about it... Tiger ALREADY has almost a billion in the bank. Does he REALLY need more? He could disappear tomorrow and still live a very nice life on what he already has. But of course now, the media will follow him around waiting for yet another table scrap to pounce on (because he's already fed them and they'll more than wait for another portion.)
