What level are you looking for? There are good prices out there for the Nikon 880, around $550 it's 3 MPix. I bought the Kodak 4800 for $659 at Outpost (then -10% with ****** and Wingspan VISA).

First, figure out how much you want to spend. Then, start doing some research at a place like http://www.dcresource.com/

You can't go wrong with Olympus, Nikon, or Kodak.

OK, pick one - really high quality or low price. The two do NOT go hand in hand...

Seriously, for what you're spending, look at the Olympus D-360L or the Kodak DC215. They're both very nice. Or, if you're brave, look at some nicer models on eBay - they'll sell for cheap - maybe the Kodak DC290.

ok well.. as you can tell i've never explored this digital camera thing before.
What I was thinking about doing was buying a decent camera for 300-400 bucks and using the rest of my money on accessories. I noticed on some websites, usb cables, extra memory, etc... cost a lot of money. I want to be able to take a lot of pictures, and I don't need an insane resolution. Zoom is a must... and so is an LCD screen on the back so I can take out bad pictures right then and there.
The only thing that is holding me back is knowing how many pictures I can or can't store on 16MB of space and whether or not I should be posting. I don't want to have to run to my computer after every 20 pictures I take.
Thanks,

Accessories are a neccessity when it comes to cameras (digital or conventional). I've not heard of any digital camera that's shipped without the appropriate cables.

You really should take a look at the site Jeffbx posted, and maybe Imaging Resource (http://www.imaging-resource.com/), Digital Photography Review (http://www.dpreview), MegaPixel.net (http://www.megapixel.net), DigitalCameras.com (http://www.digitalcameras.com), Steve's DigiCams (http://www.steves-digicams), and Digital Camera Resource (http://www.dcresource.com).

The review sections would normally list the misc stuff that comes with it. And as far as I know, no digital camera comes with a big enough memory card. :heh:

At any rate, you should be able to get at least a 2 MPixel camera for your price range. Narrow it down to a few candidates, then look up the going street price on PriceWatch (http://www.pricewatch.com).

As with all major purchases, (more than a little) research would go a long long way. Good luck. :)

Thanks for your help, everyone! I really appreciate it; i've been able to narrow it down to 4-5 cameras, but now that I come to think of it, I'll probably take chosenfool's advice and get into a store to get the feel for a camera before i make any purchases.
I love GotApex!
Thanks again!

I 'am looking too. I've see refurb Kodak dc280s 2.l megapixel on fleabay for 200-300. Another good deal is the Fuji 1400 1.3 megapixel if you can get the right pricematch and rebate deal (Staples)some have gotten it for $150-175.00 maybe even better . The HP C315 2.1 wouldn't be bad either if you can get the right PM / coupon/ rebate combination to get the price way down from the typical street price of $ 399.00.

Supposedly there are new cameras which use CMOS (lower manufacturing cost vs CCD presently used in most digcams) coming out sometime later this year which should cause digital camera prices to drop substantially . But who knows when or how much ?

The Kodak is a good deal - the 280 is a very nice camera that probably still retails for about $5-600. I wouldn't bother with Fuji or HP. Check user reviews - they aren't that great.
