...and I was amazed after I found this site (http://choppedonion.com/index.html) at how many of these places I have eaten in...
“If you crave the best hot dogs, slaw dogs, onion rings, fried peach pies, juicy cheeseburgers, root beer, steaks, donuts, real milkshakes, breakfast anytime, ribs, sweet tea, pit-cooked barbecue, ice cream, fresh squeezed lemonade, baked beans or hush puppies, www.choppedonion.com (http://choppedonion.com/index.html) is where you will find them! We travel across America to bring you the best hotdog stands, burger joints, diners, barbeque shacks, soda fountains, drive-in's, ice cream parlors, custard stands and donut places we can find! So, on your next trip, you won't waste time searching for a place to eat in a strange town.”
Today's gem was Jimmie's Hot Dogs in Albany, GA (http://www.flintriveroutfitters.com/go/reports/eat/jimmies-hotdogs/) - excellent "red dye #3" chili dogs on top-split buns. 3 for $2.89!

itts been a few years since i was down there, but i STILL remember that place as the BEST BBQ i've ever had. most of the places down there use a tomato sauce based BBQ sauce...i'm personally a HUGE fan of vinegar based. they are much runnier, but i love the flavor.
i hope you're staying at a house and not a hotel, its a much more enjoyable experience. and for the most part, as long as you're semi-oceanfront, you'll not haev to share the beach with more than 20 people within 40-60 yards

Well if any of you are ever in St. Louis and want some of the area's best BBQ, check out Pappy's.

They were featured on the Man vs. Food show a year or two ago and win lots of local and national 'Q' awards.

I am the exact opposite - when it comes to North Carolina pork barbecue I much prefer Lexington-style (typically pork shoulder with tomato-based sauce) to Eastern (typically whole hog with vinegar / red pepper-based sauce)... US Highway 1 (I-95) is the unofficial "line of demarcation" between the two styles.

Absolutely - we get together with extended family and rent a house in Corolla for a week.
