This is no joke. Seriously. Apparently, http://www.sony.com is selling ps2 directly from sony. Just go to their playstation store. The cool part is that it's IN STOCK and ready to ship in 48 hours! Hopefully this means that it will ship in 48 hours and not 48 days.

Let me know your luck. I ordered one and I have gotten an order confirmation via email. I called tech support and they said it wasn't a joke.

I was one of those people early on who said I would rather die than buy a ps2 and instead been advocating to buying a DC (which I have) and an XBox later this year.

However, I caved in (and have been made fun of for doing so) because of two games. Madden 2001 is the best game I have ever played EVER. If you thought NFL2K1 was damn good, which I did for a while, you have to try Madden 2001 for PS2. It's everything NFL2K1 is and everything it couldn't do. By the way, the PC version is completely different from the PS2 version. If you played NFL2K1 for a long time, you would notice the limited character animations. I mean, there are only certain ways the receiver and catch it and only certain ways you could tackle someone. In Madden 2001 PS2, the motions are incredibly fluid and the gameplay is outstanding.

The other game is SSX. Think Tony Hawk 2 on a snowboard with crazy graphics and sick maps.

You really have to play the PS2 to appreciate it. By the way, it's DVD player is supposedly one of the best around.

Did you know that in the all the jet vs. jet games, if you took the top off the stick and pressed the up and down switches at the same time, you went insanely fast, and if you hit left and right at the same time, you'd stop dead? :D

A couple months ago I would have agreed with you about the Dreamcast being a better overall deal, half the price, 4 controller ports built in, lots of great games. Sega however is ceasing manufacture of Dreamcast hardware in March. They say they will still support the DC with software for the next 18 months, but they are already putting some big projects on other systems (Virtua Fighter 4 is a PS2 exclusive).

What's the alternative to a dying system?

Nothing really for now, unless you have money to burn.

I also own a PS2 and while I'm happy with it, there are maybe 5 games that are really good, with a few more "Must haves" coming out in the next few months.

To get a good 4-player game of Time Splitters going I had to spend $300 for the PS2, $30 for an extra controller (we used old PS dual shocks also), $35 for a multiplayer adapter and $50 for the game. That's a pretty expensive good time - imagine how much beer that could have bought ;)

Anyway my point is the Dreamcast is a good time NOW, the PS2 is a good time a year from now and beyond.

Oh yeah, GameCube comes out in October!

Neither one of you can deny, that original nintendo or for those of you who were rather lucky to get the Nintendo family system :) he he which came with like 350 games per cartridge, (i still have it), anyways you can not deny that those games are still the best.

During the small window that playstation.com had PS2's in stock, I went to the website and ordered and got a shipping confirmation. Unbeknowest to me, my girlfriend saw the site at the very same time and since she couldn't get in touch with me, she ordered one TOO! She got her shipping confirmation (the CSR said that he couldn't cancel her order) and so we'll have TWO PS2's!!!!!

I'm selling one to a friend at my cost... because I'm such a swell guy.... and as talented as I am, I can't play two at once
