I've been looking around for a HTPC and the mac mini has been top on my list. I likve Mac OS and I like the design of the mac mini. However, as with all Apple stuff you pay a premium for the product. Recently I started looking into building one myself using intel i5 or i7 processor on a mini-itx mb and case. Price-wise it's comparable but the speed and power on my custom rig is way above the mac mini. Comments? Opinions? Advice?
i'm partial to mythtv, but i don't know enough about the mac mini to have an opinion in relation to that

I've looked into good htpc setups for mac, and couldn't find good software for htpc on mac. appletv is just different.
If you have good suggestions, then let me know, but I'm pretty happy with windows media center, and a bit of dabbling with boxee.

I would have recommended that you take a look at this afternoon's Shell Shocker deal (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500037) at Newegg, but it's already sold out.

Not sure what all you want to do, but you might want to take a look at the Boxee box that's coming out in a couple of months.
