I don't know if anyone else stays up to date with outcoming phones, but this phone is supposed to be a power house. If it stands up to all they hype, I'm considering one.

more and more of the people i know are starting to go back to the old school type cell phones. i have to agree with them less seems to be best. who really uses all the junk added to these new phones . it seems like the more these phones do the less the battery's last. i got a blackberry and most the stuff on it I don't need . not really sure how to use ,find its more trouble to use then its worth. also with such a small screen its a pain on the eyes to watch like TV shows or play games on.
also getting to a program i may only use every now and then trying to remember were it is located. sure i know i have it in my cell phone but in waht file ? i think next time i get a phone its going to be a down grade not a phone with lots of thills that i really can live without.

I too am a huge fan of physical keyboards. I'm torn between a couple of phones coming out, the others being the Samsung Galaxy S and the new LG one with the Iron Man 2 commercials, which does have a keyboard. I've always loved LG's keyboards. I've used The V, Voyager, and Env3. All had basically the same keyboard...and it was perfect.

I like the sound of the LG Ally as well but it's only going to be on Verizon as far as I know and I'm trying to get away from them...

why? sure, it's more expensive than sprint, but overall quality is great! i might end up with the incredible, though. my wife is up for a new phone next month, so she gets to play with a new toy first. bah.

Mostly because I can get a full data plan on another carrier for the same price I'm paying on Verizon with 300 minutes and unlimited texting. I live close enough to Chicago that I should be able to get a decent signal regardless of carrier. The Incredible is supposed to be bangin'. You should give your wife your old one and take hers :)

a friend at work picked up the incredible and it's pretty sweet also. I didn't get much chance to mess around with it but it seemed pretty snappy.
You know it's funny we used to have 3 iphones at work, mine, colleague and boss... now there is 1 iphone left which is my boss.
on the other hand there were ZERO android handsets and now there are atleast 5 that i know of.
nexus
droid
incredible
hero x2
i still have yet to see another nexus one in the wild.

Let me know how it works for you. I'm probably not going to bite the bullet on a new phone until I've heard some good info. I've heard the experience of using the Samsung Galaxy S is like no other, and apparently it has slightly higher graphics power. I'll try and find the link on that when it's not 2am. However, the Evo is just raw power, and I think that front facing 1.3 mp (I think) camera is really where the future is at, and the Galaxy lacks that. Also, the rear cameras: 8mp vs. 5mp., Evo>Galaxy S.

However HTC camera is crap comparing to the ones used in Samsung, SE, and Nokia phones.
TouchWiz UI (Samsung proprietary) is also a piece of crap. HTC Sense is much better.
Samsung Galaxy S is coming to all 4 major US carriers and I think T-Mobile will get it first (July).

I think I'm going to make the switch also. I up for an upgrade from the Nextel BB. I must reboot this thing 3 times a week.
I guess it's finally time to give up my "chirp" and get a grown up phone and this one seems to be THE one...

If I wasn't on $30/month plan that includes 450 min and unlimited everything else, I'd jump. My phone is 3 years old and Sprint is making harder for me to get a new phone that supports my plan. The EVO looks good but it's going to be $70+$10 for 4G which makes it $80. To be fair, Verizon and ATT will charge you much more to include unlimited text and free after 7pm.
I'm considering joining my wife's ATT plan for the new iPhone or Palm Pre.

The droid is still the best option if you need a hardware keyboard.

no :(
you?
I'm not expecting it for another week or two.
The version that was floating around was kinda pre-release. I would have tried it but they don't have an ATT version floating around just the t-mob.
the internet connection was flakey as hell when i was out of town at a hotel this week and was praying froyo showed up magically. Makes me really want this new update.

I played with one in Best Buy and I don't like it just because of the size. It's big and doubt it'll fit comfortably in a shirt pocket. If you have big hands it's great.

Do you have the "Burger King" hands?
I don't think I am going to a problem with the EVO size since I had no problem with the HD2 (4.3" screen WM6.5 monster).

it's really not much bigger then an iphone.
I got a call today from Best Buy, they had 57 preorders and are understaffed for Friday, so they set me up with an 'appointment' at 1:20 to pick up the phone. I thought that was odd; on the other hand, I guess it means I'm getting the phone on Friday.

That was funny. I don't know about him, but I shouldn't have a problem with hand size.

I'm quite jealous. I just got home a few minutes ago. I've been out on the range all weekend and haven't even gotten to see what people have said about it. Do you think it's too big?
(cough, that's what she said)
Google handed out several of the phones a week in advance to make sure people knew how to tweak it when it was released :)

Just picked mine up today. I had to call like, 15 stores to find one and then finally did and had them hold it until I could get there. Good thing too, because all the rest had sold out by the time I arrived. This is NOT a phone for someone who does not have a means to charge it twice a day, but I really like it so far.

Should have gotten the Seidio Innocell 3200 mAh extend battery instead. You can just use that on a long flight without worrying about swapping battery.
I finally gave in an installed Froyo 2.2 update (custom ROM) in my Nexus One. It is working okay so far. There are some 3rd party apps that don't work yet but I can live it it.

it sticks out from the back right? I wonder if that would allow the phone to be propped up like a kickstand b/c that would be sweet!
i'm starting to wonder if it's going to show up anytime soon... weird that it isn't here yet :(

Yeap it sticks out quite a bit but it's good for long commute.
I revert back to 2.1 after trying out 2.2 when the Nexus One with 2.1 is hacked for 720p recording.

Stupid home run derby 3D game has me hooked, not Tetris hooked, but I have pretty bad....
I like how the voicemail plays without having to dial a number just hit play and you hear them.
+1 on the voice nav apps.

I got hooked on this game called "Paper Toss". Also, I was excited to see that I could get apps that would allow me to use the phone as a tether device without paying Sprint's 30 dollar fee. Some of the apps didn't even require rooting, which is fantastic.

this is odd, but I find the battery life is better if you leave GPS on. I think it's because when it's off, the phone is constantly wondering where it is, whereas when the GPS is on, it just knows.

I ran my battery just about down to zero today, and then checked the battery usage. 42 percent or so was due to cell standby, and 32 percent was from phone idle. That seems kind of ridiculous. The Android system used 12 percent, and the display 4. I will try leaving my GPS on and seeing what happens.

you know, I'm getting the impression that the battery software on the phone just isn't calibrated right, so I'm trying to retrain it.
According to HTC, plug it in till it goes green, unplug it, turn it off and plug it back in till it goes green. Repeat this until the phone is just always green when you plug it back in. I'm trying this now.
I've noticed that sometimes it will stay at 100 percent on standby for 2 hours, other times it drops 5 percent in an hour. That's bad calibration in my mind.
