So the 2010 Golf TDi that I ordered was put on hold about 6-8 weeks ago. Basically they stopped making the 2010 and they want to give me a 2011.

A 2011 for the same price sounds good, but if its like last year it will mean a delivery time of mid to late september.

Also I just found out the 2012 is a new platform (as was the 2010), which means the MK6 I would be getting will have only been in production for 2 years.

Looking at reviews it seems the Honda Fit has had good reviews for its interior and the Ford Fiesta good overall reviews.

What do you you think? Wait? Get a diff car? Anyone here have experience with the Fit or Fiesta?

WOW. that much of a demand on these guys?

could you go look for a used version of the tdi?

a friend has the stripped down verison of the fit and likes it a lot. and I've read good things about the fiesta as well.

They are only made in the Germany plant, and of course Europe gets most of those. There is a high demand here for the supply given, but apparently not enough to retool the mexico plant yet.

Sadly I think the last one made before 2010 was 2006 due to changes in emission laws (NO emissions) Also people seem to hang on to diesels longer than regular gas engines

I like that I heard you can turn the fit seats into a bed.

The fiesta had a pretty good review by Top Gear with impressive results when used as a beach assault vehicle by the RAF

I also like that both the Fiesta and Fit knock 7k off of what I'd pay for the Golf TDi

i'd go for a Fiesta before I'd go with a Fit. More standard options, better MPG, especially with the funky (dual clutch?) automatic. Plus, it's just nicer looking. Or, if you want it a bit more sporting, the Mazda 2 is the same car.

The fit is just kind of boring to me.

Yea I had heard the mazda was the same, ill have to compare it.

better MPG? I read that there was no official info released yet. I havnt even been able to confirm if its the same engine as the british model yet. there's also a possibility of a diesel fiesta end of 2011

i saw the fiesta in a commercial and was pleasantly surprised with how nice it looked. definitely prefer the styling over the fit. other than that, i dunno. :)

What about looking at the Audi equivalent - the A3 TDi. It will be a little bump in price but they might have it in and ready to go. Plus, its better fit and finish.

29/40 with the snazzy dual clutch auto, 28/37 manual. which beats the fit.

It is but at 5-6k more, Im unwilling to go with that option.

At a certain point the realization hits that its just a box to get me from point A to point B, and for me that limit is at 320ish a month.

So before I left for vacation I figured I had decided to wait on the VW. The savings in gas and the federal tax credit really closes the gap on the price difference.

But now Im finding out due to the delay I only qualify for 50% of the credit, and now the Ford site has allowed for a bit more customization of the car making it more appealing, though I still think the electronics console is ugly as hell.

Oh and there is one other tiny factor...part of me wants to say F*** it! I dont need a car.

I walk to places in my neighborhood, take the train if I go into the city, and only have a 4 mile drive to work (if I take the train it brings me to just 1.2miles away.)

The only time I actually NEED a car is for trips and going to my parents house.

So for the cost of a bike and this addon http://www.electricwheel.co.uk/products/conversion-kits/nano.html
I could do most of what I need.

scooter is an idea, but it would need a motor and bigger wheels for pot holes

Hell, with a scooter you could just zip around them.

I was thinking something along the lines of a Vespa, etc.

For only for miles why would you need that addon?

my moped is my primary form of transportation. my commute is ~3 miles one way. of course, i don't get snow at all or that much rain, so it's not much of a problem. it is fun, though!
