Does anyone know what the best site(s)are to buy 35mm SLR camera's (with US warranty, of course)? All the site's I've been too seem to have the same "discounted" price for the same camera's (colusion perhaps?)

Also: any advice as to which camera's to look at would be appreciated. leaning towards Nikon and Pentax--although I've been told by some B&M dealers to stay away from Pentax -- maybe because they wanted to push Nikon. I also hear that the manufacturer of the body is not nearly as important as the lens you buy. OK, I'll stop rambling on........

Your right about the body not being important, I suggest you get an older camera, that is fully manual. As for the lens 50mm is what you want, if your just starting. Try to get one that has a low F-stop. 99% will have an F-stop of 2, Try to get one that also has a 1.8 or a 1.6

Brenner, I am complete rookie at photography and I recently signed up for a photography class. I asked one of my friends who is a decent photographer the same questions as you are asking and he directed me to this place called B&H. Their prices are comparable and their address is

http://www.bhphotovideo.com

They have a huge@$$ selection too.

The camera I ended up buying was the Olympus OM-2000. I bought the kit which included the body, a 35-70 lens, and a cause for the camera for $238. The price for the kit before tax is $219. For the body only, the price is $159. I actually went to the B&M cause I live in NYC and that price includes tax. You will have to pay shipping if you order from them online.

I am so happy I got that camera though. It has a nice aluminum body and it feels mmm mmm good. The things I have done to that camera.

Yes B&H is a great place to do your shopping, I forgot tht they had a website (I generally go there in person).

They have some of the best prices in the NYC area.

I'm not sure if K&M have a website, but if you live in the area they are on 1st and 33rd (not sure about 33rd) They are a little more expensive, but they are closer to where I have my class.
