Office Depot has the Sprint PCS enabled Motorola TimePort phone.
Great battery life, dual band, Web enabled, and nice and small. Great V-day gift for that special someone (at least i hope so, becasue i just ordered one for a present.) :-)

This is the same phone that was on the deal page a couple of weeks ago!

here is link for $15 off $50

http://www.officedepot.com/offers/rcvalid.asp?adid=5007&SID=NJ7SATNC3GDF8PSNBG25JJG5PANKEGQ4&PP=0

and then the phone is here:

http://www.officedepot.com/shop/catalog/sku.asp?ID=294081

Phone cost $59.44 - $15 = $44.44+tax.

My total order came up under $50!!!

Also the Samsung 6100 is available for $33.22.
So the coupon wouldn't really help unless there was another $17.88+ item you needed.
This phone is even smaller and lighter, but the battery life isn't as good (though still very good) and it is only a digital band phone.

Enjoy,

Wade

Wow, they killed that coupon quick!

Well the phone is still there for $59, which in itself is a great deal...I believe it is around $250 at Best Buy. So still a good deal.

when i originally looked at the motorola, it was out of stock, but a week later it was back in....Hope that gives you some hope.

Also, I believe someone in the For Sale forum has some of the Motorolas for sale at his cost. So a very fair deal!

It doesn't show up on the search.
Walberty, did you purchase the samsung? If you did, look in your past orders and check the item number.

Nope I ordered the Motorola, because it is dual band and has better battery life for only a few bucks more.

I just talked to a customer service rep. for Office Depot and inquired about this phone. They are totally out of stock with no plans for anymore. There are in store specials going on now through 2-17-01 on other phones, depending on your carrier. Check your local Office Depot(if you have one) or check the sales ad in today's paper.

If it's not GSM, its not worth getting. All of Europe and Asia coulden't be wrong.

They might not be wrong but gsm isnt very popular here in the states. That means u'll pay a hefty price for service. In a few years things might change but for now, i'll take the best deal i can find.

Just for fun, I went to Office Depot this morning and checked to see status of the phone...for now anyway it is showing it is available...Go figure....never trust a customer service rep to know what he is talking about.
I have no idea how long the deal is going to last.
So you might want to jump on it ASAP!...

If the phone is available in a different zip code from which you live in, how do you get office depot to send it to you?

I have that Motorola Timeport P8167 with Sprint PCS. I have had it for about 2 months now. I go through mobile phones real quick. (I always like the latest in gadgets.) I've been with Sprint PCS since it's inception. (I have two Pioneer accounts with no monthly charges whatsoever.) The coverage sucked in the beginning but it is now very good.

I caved in a week ago and got a Nokia 8890... (an EXPENSIVE) GSM phone. Let me tell you this, CDMA is much better than GSM. The call quality is SUPERIOR. The difference is definitely noticeable.

CDMA -- Much better voice quality and reception. Superior. (This was tested back to back with the Nokia/GSM having full signal strength and the Motorola/CDMA system having one signal bar. Flawless reception, the Nokia/GSM choked WITH FULL BARS!)

GSM -- SIM Chip kicks ass, SMS kicks ass.

Nokia and CDMA do not go well together. Nokia attempted to make their own CDMA chip and failed miserably. I had a Nokia 6185, and it sucked big time compared to my (still connected) Motorola Timeport, and my QUALCOMM Thinphone.

One other thing, Nokia handsets have the "crappiest" batteries. The Motorola wins hands down on this one. (The QUALCOMM Thinphone's battery wins as well...)

If I were to do it again, I wouldn't have gotten the Nokia. But it's a sweet looking phone in a sweet small package. I caved in mainly to save %50 on my monthly "communication costs." But I'll sacrifice quality and get rid of my Sprint PCS Service and my 2-way Verizon Motorola Email Pager and save $40 for the all-in-one package of the Nokia/GSM/Cingular system... soon... one of these days... =)

CDMA/TDMA are relics of the past which belong in the museum. Better sound, but inefficient usage of batteries, and usage of technology from the analog cloning days. GSM uses a new compression codec. It's like comparing an LD to a DVD. Try a motorola L series or V series GSM phone. Each phone has it's own set of perks. :)

I disagree. CDMA Battery usage is much lower than GSM.

Let's leave Nokia out of the question. Their batteries suck, period. GSM battery usage is higher. Needs more power... and what a waste of power usage.

I'm confused, I don't know about California, but from Chicago to the East coast Sprint is a CDMA system. They have no GSM capability. If you are using a GSM/CDMA phone on Sprint it is only operating in CDMA mode. As for the NOKIA VS Motorola, here in central VA where towers are few and far between the NOKIA 6185 has better reception than any of the Motorolas as I've compared them in side by side tests in low signal situations. As for the batteries, the NOKIA extended Lithium Ion in the 6185 outlasts the motorola by 2 to 1. Again this is in a low signal situation where the phones are operating in both digital and analog search modes. In a full digital situation (ie Chicago area) the 6185 will last for 3-4 days with heavy use and 6-7 days with moderate use between charges. If you're having problems with short battery life you must have your system setting locked on to search both digital and analog systems. Try setting to digital (Sprint) only and see if that doesn't extend your battery time. I prefer the size and weight of the Motorola but due to the system limitations here in VA the NOKIA gives much better functionality.

For my Nokia 8890, I had to get Cingular service, which is GSM.

For my Nokia 6185, it was with Sprint PCS as well as my Motorola Timeport P8167. The Timeport received much better signal and much longer battery life than my Nokia. And I am a heavy user.

The Nokia AND the Motorola are both using Analog/Digital automatic system search. And since the Motorola had superior signal strength, it never switched to Analog as much... if at all really... and that could be the cause of the superior battery life, who knows. In fact, Sprint PCS coverage at my home is very weak and the Nokia had absolutely no signal here for digital and promptly switches to Analog roam. The Motorola has one-two signal strength bars with much better voice quality as well (no matter what the signal strength is on both phones). Motorola wins, hands down. I don't know about the lower Motorola models, but the Timeport is superior.

Nokia can't make CDMA phones. They attempted to make their own CDMA chips instead of buying/licensing/paying royalties to QUALCOMM. And this is why Sprint PCS will no longer carry Nokia phones. They just can't make a CDMA phone properly... period. Maybe if they would just pay QUALCOMM they can make a good CDMA phone...

Our mileage definitely varied.
