I took my son to get his hair cut at the BX and noticed that they had a huge clearance going on... EVERYTHING on these racks up front was $1.97!!!
INCLUDING my leather pants and jacket I have in Layaway!!!

*sigh* they won't adjust the layaway. If I cancel it, they will hold it in back for 24 hours and then put it out first-come-first-serve!

Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

I used to work there and talked to one of the managers, and she won't pull strings... do you think I should go up to the General Manager??

This just plain sucks!!!

Why dont you just buy the pants for $1.79 from off the clearance rack, if they have your size, and then cancel the layaway. UNless I misread your post which is always possible, you said that you were worried about cancelling it because then you wouldnt get it. Depending on how much the pants were before they went clearance, it is probably worth your while to kill the order. Even if they were $40 pants and they wanted to keep 10% of wha you paid, you would only be out $4 plus the $1.97 for the clearance pants. You would thus be $34.03 in the black.

Alternatively, if they wont refund your layaway payments, you should just pay it all off in one lump sump, and using that great return policy that every store has, immediately change your mind for a full refund. That way you wouldnt be out any money. That is of course assuming that they have a return policy.

Yeah.. I tried playing the game at the store. They wouldn't budge.. which really sucks cuz I used to work there and know everyone!

I looked for my size on the rack and they didn't have have it :( , believe me, I would have bought it and cancelled the layaway.

What I ended up doing (which is my only chance of getting them at the $1.97 price) was canceling the layaway. Hopefully when I get there in the morning the outfit will cost $4 and that on top of the $3 deposit for the layaway will be a great deal.

I guess we will see...

:hmm: this better be some outfit! Personally, if it doesn't plug into the wall (or into something that does), I dont care for it :)

Well, the store is the Base Exchange.

And as for the outfit, it was the outfit I wanted to wear when I picked up my hubby from the airport. ;)

It was *ahem* very nice.

Well, when I cancelled the layaway, they had told me to come up when they opened and it would be ready to be put out on the floor. It wasn't there. So I talked to the sucky store manager (which I can say cuz I have dealt with him before). He said when did you cancel it? Last night. He said that it would not be put out till tonight then. I asked him if he was sure. He said he couldn't hold it and walked away! HE WALKED AWAY! I was still talking to him!
What a yob!

I can't go play "is it on the floor yet??" so it is gone.

Anyone know where I can get a leather jacket and pair of pants for $4??

You could try Mexico... Maybe

Why couldn't you just buy the wrong size for the cheaper price and exchange it for your size when it became available?

I had a similar situation once but no layaway involved... A couple of weeks after I purchased this suit, it went on sale for 60% off. So I purchased a different pair of pants and returned the original pants and jacket. I would have bought another jacket too but that was the only one left. So I sent in a friend right after me to re-purchase the jacket. Worked out nice. :)

I didn't have time to stay at the store until my size became available. I would have believe me for that price!

I did write a letter to the General Manager, and he gave me the run around saying that even though it isn't posted, they don't do it because their number one goal as a retail store is to sell at the price orginally marked...

They can do this because they will never go out of business. They can treat their customers like that because it is a military store, they have a customer base as long as the military keeps it's soldiers. Like a captive audience...

Oh well, it's gone. I have moved on...
