reason I'm asking is i just went to one this weekend I'm guessing they drop around 150G to host it for about 200 guests. it was held at the http://www.grmuseum.org/ museum in downtown Grand Rapids, mich. plus all the extras like renting a shuttle bus, rehearsal dinner and then the tux rentals ,brides wedding dress. church fee's, cake ,and flower arrangements. i maybe under est. the costs on this one it was sweet. im thinking it was the 2nd most costly wedding i have been at.

I was also just at a wedding this weekend, but it was the complete opposite...in bride and grooms backyard, potluck buffet, and only about 30 people...still enjoyable, except for the 5hr ride I did each way in one day.

Usually the ceremony at the church is less than 5k for the space. If you have a chinese wedding where the place comes with the food, then it's like $500-600 per table for 10 people.

I would have to say there's a wedding for every budget. I read somewhere that the past few years the average price for a wedding cost about $30k. This all depending on what and where you want to spend on.

I think ours was around 15k for 300 people. She wanted a bigger one. I told her if we go into debt for a wedding, might as well pay for some divorce papers. :)

I think we spent 3k or so total with pictures/dj/rental space for wedding and reception/ food for 100 people/ dress.. etc. at a Golf Course Country Club One of the guests thought we had spent 40k though.
Less than $5,000. Her dress was $1k. We bought dinner @ Buca Di Bepo for 50ish people for another $1k. Ceremony crap was about $500. I'd say there was another $500 for misc. crap.
Vegas wedding. :D

my wife and mine cost around $800 to grand and i might be pushing it .
her dress was from jc pennys mail order . the wedding was at church .and the decon was a close friend. the hall rental was like $25 the flowers were shared by us and the morning wedding at the same church. saved a ton there on that cost.
her grand father picked up the booze tab also he got it from out of state and brought cases of rums and wiskey. food was bought at the farmers market and we cooked and also had a brother to are brother inlaw perpare it (he a chef ) $25 gift to him.
music was live her sister ,some friends played plus are friend the decon.
biggest cost was decorations ,cake ,cups ,plates ,napkins, silverware all from gordens food service.
this was 30 years ago. plus her dad worked at the flower shop big big savings there. we had 250- 300 guest at are wedding.

My wedding cost way too much and I'll leave it at that. Had about 150 people and it wasn't cheap. Everyone had a great time but I still think it was silly to spend that much money on one day.

I'll repeat and agree with those same sentiments.
My wife and I have been married for 7+ years now and we are still paying it off. It was a wonderful occassion that people still rave about to this day, but it cost a bundle.
Once again, the problem is costs have increased exponentially, while incomes have stayed static. Moreover, what is expected has changed for the worse.

I have no intention to imply that spending a lot of money on a wedding is wrong in any way, but my girlfriend and I both want to have a small-scale wedding with very close friends and family, and believe that very little can be spent and still make the wedding special and memorable. In fact, I think it will be more special particularly because it won't be a typical expensive wedding with tons of people. Now the hard part of actually making it happen...

i wish you luck. also don't be surprised if it still runs you as much as double what you plan for.
but you do need to be flexible to cut costs .sometimes this means working around others as in if at a hall . they do have high and low demand seasons. same go's for planning were you go on a honeymoon. if you are doing a honeymoon right after. some cruise ships offer mas discounts in the summer for island trips. same is true for fall trips on colder cruises like to alaska.

Thanks. I must clarify that saving money is not our no.1 priority. It's more about avoiding things that we feel are too typically extravagant and commercial, which is of course a very subjective thing. I have no idea what the ceremony will end up being like, but I must say we both have a bit of hippie in us. Having said all that, it's all the better if we save money so your tips are much appreciated. Thanks!

I think we'll be in at just under $15k. It will be a small wedding, less than 40 people, but it's also kind of a destination wedding for nearly all people we invited (Big Island of Hawaii). The cost was a large concern for us as well, as we're looking to buy our move-up house in the next couple years. I honestly would have been OK with a courthouse or Vegas, but the parents wanted something a little more ceremonial. Very casual affair at a nice community center-type of place; I'm not even wearing a suit.

i think my wife and i spent a shy under $20k for ~130 people. Rented a restaurant on the water with a grassy area in the back. Wife came in on a little boat. honeymooning on the Big Island was one of the best ideas, though. saved a lot on the honeymoon by going to the Big Island.

My father was sick and dying, we wanted him to see us married so we planned and did it in 6 days since time was of the essence. We had about 80 people. Had it at our condo country club, they gave us a room and the food for $25 per person. Had a one man band and Carvel ice cream cake, a photographer. My wife got a dress off the rack at Sacks. It was nice, fast planning was the best part, cost total under $5000.
