What a way to start out the new years. I got my coat, palm pilot, cell phone, and keys stolen...about $1000 worth of stuff. They broke into my friends car while I was inside a club. The thieves also have my student ID, so they know who I am, and they can get my address from the palm pilot. I'm so stupid didn't put a password on it. Now I'm gonna have to change all my locks...I hope my car doesn't get stolen too. Theft happens so much in SF that the police wouldn't even let me file a report. The officer just gave me a name and badge number for insurance purposes. Part of me tells me to stop trippin cus it's just material items, and it's not really a life or death situation. But I really liked that coat! And I really need my phone! And I really need my keys! (Hate to be repetitive but..) I really want my palm back! :bawl: I wanna hurt those bastards real bad.

Sorry to hear that you lost your stuff. I truly feel your pain, and agree that when it comes to police responding to thefts, they are generally not helpful.
I had two mountain bikes stolen from me back when I was in school. The first one was stolen from outside of the dorms in the middle of the day. Damn thief broke a kryptonite evolution 2000 lock, supposedly the best kryptonite made at the time. And cut through a bunch of airplane cable that was protecting the tires.
The next time, they got my bike from a second story balcony, once again with a kryptonite evolution 2000 lock, and airplane cable. I was out of town, but all my roommates were in town. There were deadbolts on the bedroom door too, so the police categorized it as a cat burglary. Thankfully, my home insurance covered that theft. Total for the two losses about $2500 between the two bikes. I only recouped $1000 for the second bike once the deductible was removed. What can you do.
Well at least your friends car insurance will cover the thefts from the car, so long as there is proper documentation. Hopefully you can meet the proof requirements.

That is the most disturbing thing i've ever heard. I'm probably exaggerating you know. What's the site? Maybe I can pick up some unclaimed merchandise. Is that unmoral?

So you didnt learn from the first kryptonite lock and airplane cables...
Do what i do...always loosen the tires and take the little screw thing off also loosing the brakes...that way they may get away with it but not too far...the first time they lift the bike up or try to stop...SUCKS TO BE THEM...

They stole my whole life, purse, checkbook, credit cards, cell, jacket, house/car keys, I just reported it to cops, (they didn't give a shit, and told me that they had to something more important to do, and then took off:( ) I told my insurance and got "some" money back.
