Ok - this was originally posted on a different board, but was sold out yesterday afternoon. Walmart.com must have gotten a few more in. They have the HP N5125 laptop marked down from $998 to $749. I ordered one yesterday morning, and it shipped within 5 hours. System has 64 meg of memory, DVD, 12.1" active matrix screen (only 800x600 though), and a Celeron 500mhz processor. This is a good deal on a low-end laptop, especially with the DVD. Can't take credit for finding the deal, but it *IS* still there if you hurry.

Seems to be gone again. Keep your eyes on their website if you are interested - they must be releasing a few at a time.

I thought that it has a TFT screen; If it isn't, how do you like the screen quality?

500 mhz is still faster than my desktop. I will go for it. Thank you freaks for the notice. Did I ever tell you that you guys are the wind beneath my wings?

TFT is the same as Active Matrix. Also, 800x600 is all you'd be able to see on a 12.1 inch screen anyway. Text would be too small to be readable if resolution was higher. I have a CTX EZ book, and 12.1 TFT is just fine. I have 15inch dell at work and it is overkill for a "portable" device.

I have basically the same machine in a PIII 450MHz flavor. The screen is very nice, but HP does make one with a 14" and a DVD player--that system rocks.

They are bulky for laptops--not like a Sony VAIO or IBM, but nice for the price.

I would link it if the deal existed right now - it's been on & off the last few days. The 'notebook' catagory is http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product_listing.gsp?cat=4435&dept=3944&sb=61&path=0:3944:3951:4435&bti=0, but the laptop hasn't been listed for about the last day. Migth be a dead deal now...
