Cool, but I don't think I've ever paid to visit a national park...

You haven't been going to the most popular ones, apparently! I went on a long road trip last summer - picked up an Annual Pass to the parks for $80 or so when I went to my first park on the trip (Grand Canyon) . . . within a week and a half or so, the annual pass paid for itself before making it through Utah.

By the way, the National Parks Annual Pass is one of the best deals in the country . . . if I lived anywhere near interesting national parks, it would quickly become a must-have on my list of annual expenses.

Aah...you're right. I forgot about the GC. I haven't been there in many years. I usually go to Great Smoky Mountains (which is actually the most visited iirc,) and there is never a fee.

The most recent national park I've been to was when my wife and I were vacationing in the Shenandoah Valley last September and paid to drive on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park (http://www.nps.gov/ner/shen/). The fee was (as I recall) good for a week, which was nice because we drove on two different sections as part of separate day trips.
