I had finally finished this game a few days ago. I had bought it the first week of January and it should be fairly cheap by now. Its a pretty good action brawler with constant enemy encounters and frantic boss fights. Probably the largest bosses Ive see this generation along side the new Castlevania. I found the gameplay to be very demanding from the player but not overly frustrating like Ninja Gaiden. The controls could be a little tighter but they are functional once you get used to them.
Bayonetta has a very strong art style with an ADD shattering cinematic flair with lots of jump cuts, tush shots, and gunkata. Her many combo finishers fill the screen with magical attacks that take the form of large monsters or giant boots and fists. There are various references to other sega and capcom games of years past. It had spent about 2 years in production and it shows with its character/enemy design and Gothic architecture. I didnt care for the story but much of it is explained late in the game and thankfully the music can be turned off which may enhance your enjoyment.
There are unlockable costumes and some weapons but most stuff must be purchased. I wouldnt say its a long game but its challenging and trying to get a perfect rating on all the chapters on the harder difficulties will require serious patience and skill, particularly with the camera being problematic during some boss fights. Im glad I purchased it and felt it was worth playing. The original director and creator have since left the company casting my doubt on the quality of a sequel.
