Last time I got a new phone, I got the Motorola VE20 from Sprint.
Well now, I've become a "Sprint Premier" customer that allows me to get new phone upgrades once per year... and since I've been having a few issues with my VE20, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and get myself one of these...

Circuit City ran a sweet little deal 2 weeks ago where they were offering the HTC Evo 4G for $149.99 with no rebates to turn in (instant savings FTW!!!!)
I waited until the first of the month to activate it since I didn't want to deal with prorating the previous month through Sprint.
I also scored a sweet Otterbox Defender case that just got released about a week ago. Several places had pre-order specials for it around $35, however at Otterbox, they are asking $49.99 for it plus shipping...

Another Evo user! Welcome to the family! Make sure you get "Where's My Droid" or "Lookout Mobile Security" installed ASAP...and then never turn off your GPS...
I love my Evo though. I've had it for 6 months and it is still one of the best phones out there. That's a sweet case. I just got the rubber skin.
In other news, the Nexus S is supposed to be coming out very soon.

I'm a Galaxy S user (what the Nexus S is apparently going to be based on), but if I lived in the US I probably would have gotten the EVO. Nice phone, and an awesome case!
Welcome to Android!

DF, I'm assuming that you have 4G in your area. Have you tried to tether it to a computer and test the download speeds?
My phone is slowly dying (Motorola Razr V3m). It keeps on saying that it's updating network settings (but does nothing) and battery life is only a couple hours. I haven't been on a contract for at least three years.
I've been debating whether or not to get a 4G phone. A salesman at Radio Shack said he heard 4G would be here around March of next year, while the Best Buy phone guy said possibly February. Nothing on the Sprint webpage shows anything scheduled in this area next year. I don't think I want to pay $10 extra monthly for a feature I can't use now. I may just settle for a phone like the LG Optimus S.
No matter what phone I get, I'd have to change my plan and pay $30 or $40 more a month. I've been a Sprint Premier customer for a while, but it hasn't really done anything for me yet. I got Sprint in 1998 and dropped my landline in 1999.

:agree:
i went to an independent verizon retailer and the guy told me that froyo was coming to the droid x in a few days. this was back in july and i knew it wasn't coming until september at the soonest (per VWZ and motorola). i just wanted to test him and see what kind of BS he was going to throw my way.

Unfortunately, there is no 4G coverage in Indinapolis...
The bad thing is.. they still make us pay $10 per month for 4G even though we don't have it here (I guess they figure that we might travel somewhere that has it...)

Im sure you can get them to give you a $10 credit until your market does get it.

I'm just waiting for custom 2.3 (Gingerbread) ROM for my Nexus One. There are reports that stock Nexus One already gotten Gingerbread update.

sucks that you need to pay 4g fee when there's no 4g in your area.
sweet phone though. a few of my friends got it, and love it (we have 4g in our area).

Well technically, I'm hitting them with my 15% corporate discount so that makes the bill come down about $10.50.
I guess that is a "minor" resolution, but still it does suck to pay for something that isn't even offered in our area yet.

I just grabbed the Incredible a couple days ago when Dell was running a deal for free + $25 gift card. Verizon still wanted $150. :eek2:
I'd rather have the Evo, but no dice with Verizon. I do need a case though, I'll have to check those Otterbox ones out. They look nice.

they SAY you aren't actually paying 10 extra bucks for 4g, you are paying 10 extra bucks for unlimited data. Not saying I believe that, but whatever.
I'm in a 4G area, but honestly, 3G around here is pretty good and I very rarely even think to turn 4G on. It is faster, it IS a battery drain, but...I suppose it's a nice to have sort of thing.
Still, I love my Evo.

I rarely use 4G. I find that if I'm sitting somewhere that has 4G, it probably has Wifi as well. Guess which is faster...
I might be talking out of my butt and cannot verify this. I had an individual plan and was (and am still) charged 10 bucks for "Premium Data". I thought I used to have a separate charge for the rest of the data. My sister jumped on my plan so now I have the "Everything Data Share 1500" so it doesn't show a separate charge for data now.
DF, I'd definitely expect Nap Town to be getting 4G in the near future. I always laugh when I look at maps of IN. The roads look like a big spiderweb with everything leading to the city. It's probably the only city in IN that will get 4G for a lonnnng time :)

Joined the Evo club two days after release date. (Time it took to fedex my phone to work)
NYC has 4G and I get it at work (NJ, well in the parking lot) and at home (NJ too, only 2 bars) but usually go with wireless connect when at home.
