i had a client just give me a dell Inspiron 1525 laptop for parts. they were told by best buy the unit was toast and needed a new mother board !
the tech at bestbuy after having it for 2 weeks said the charging port was toast and that ment a new motherboard was needed. the client said screw that and just bought a new unit.
well i got the laptop case all the paperwork ( manuals ). (the works for free im happy anyway ) i didn't have a charging brick so i let it sit for the last couple of weeks. last night i was with a friend and he had his work computer. I asked if I can use his charging block from it over night it was a dell to.
i get the brick home plug it into the unit that best buy said needed a new motherboard. I open the lid hit the power button and the unit booted right up.
i let it go for 5 mins and take a look and the gage for battery heath said its at 24 % charged and is charging. i let the computer sit about 40 mins latter the meter reads 100% charged.
today I loaded windows 7 professional on it had vista before.
also the battery holding a charge. best i can figure right now from playing with it for hours now .is the power charging brick is dead. there is nothing wrong with this computer.
i feel bad for my client they went out and bought a new laptop computer. all becouse of a bad power brick that would of cost maybe $65 if they got it from dell for a oem or $30 for a aftermarket unit .
they did call me on it but I said. i really dont work on laptops that was why they took it to BEST BUY.(best buy still charged them $65 to give then bad advice to )

I would tell the friend to go back and demand a refund for the $65 they paid, then use that to buy a new charging brick and then possibly sell the currently working laptop.

I wouldn't let Beast Buy get away with that. Friends don't let friends get tech support from Beast Buy.

agreed. demand 65 bucks back. demand they take the computer back for full refund.
demand a free brick.

They didn't provide any "tech services"... so that is null and void.

I'd take it to the Store Manager if they put up a fuss. Either way, they are gonna give me my $65 back due to negligent advice.
