I used the Sprint Evo 4G until I canceled today to switch to Virgin Mobile to save some moolah. I didn't use 4G very often. 3G was plenty fast for me and when home I just used WiFi, which was faster.

hawaii only has 4G at the HNL airport right now, but LTE is supposed to be available at the end of the year. like nate, 3G is plenty fast for me right now (using VZW) and am usually around places that have wifi available. maybe after my contract expires in 2 years, i may consider it.

You'll have to report back to us and let us know how Virgin Mobile works for you. I've been thinking about looking as some of the smaller carriers as well. I have a great plan with AT&T, but I'm tired of getting nickeled and dimed by the big carriers. If you have a smart phone and want text now a days it costs a fortune between me and my wife.

I've been super happy with the LG Optimus V for Virgin Mobile. I originally bought the Samsung Intercept. I found it a bit sluggish so yesterday I bought the V and will return the Intercept after this snow storm fiasco is over. It's only 150, which is an INSANE steal in my opinion, especially for a no contract phone and it's saving me 75 bucks a month. It has the same coverage as Sprint, too. Swype is pretty fun :)
The best part is that only Radioshack and Virginmobile.com were supposed to have the phone. Radioshack's shipments were delayed. I was reading online that some Targets were mistakenly selling them before their store's release date (although most had 2 in stock). I called up a few Targets near by and got one for myself.

Well I made the plunge and picked up 2 Optimus V's on Virgin mobile for my wife and I. After playing with mine for a day I'm really happy with it so far. I'm coming from an Iphone and although the Iphone is a little be smoother in the interface and has a slightly larger screen, the Android OS is much more customizable which is really nice.
I'm paying some early termination fees to get away from AT&T, but we'll make it up in just a few months with Virgin Mobile saving us about $40/month. Can't complain about saving money while getting more services (unlimited text and data)

For those who are looking a quick update on the Optimus V and Virgin Mobile. I came from an Iphone and I love the Optimus V. I don't regret making the change one bit. I thought the SWYPE texting was great and it still is, but I don't use it much since I discovered the phone has built in voice recognition. I just hit the speaker button, speak the text and there it is.
The download speaks are a bit slower for the internet, but if you're okay with that the voice and data service are great all around me.
One interesting thing is that if you pay for your service via thier website they charge you sales tax. If you go into a store like best buy or radio shack and buy a top up card you don't have to pay any taxes. Overall, very happy with the switch. My wife who came from a non-iphone with AT&T loves her new phone even more than I do (and she doesn't like change!).
