Took me 6 hours on the road until I decided to abandon ship. Low on gas and stuck in the snow. I walked a mile uphill to my relatives house. Called AAA and find my car is gone. Sigh.

Ouch! I've had a 45 minute commute take over 4 hours, but never something as bad has you experienced. Good luck on finding your car (and getting it back with all your body parts intact).

Were you on a snow emergency route? I know in Pennsylvania they tow your car if they find it on the snow emergency route. I would call the local police (non-emergency line) to inquire whether cars were towed, who towed them, and where you can find them.

Oh, the perils of living where it snows.

I found my car. I asked the AAA tow truck to drop me off at home since there was no car for him to tow. In case you're wondering, you have to call the police station for the county that you're car was abandoned. They they tell you what tow company has your car. Cost me $321. I thought I was stuck on the shoulder but with the snow I was on the rightmost lane. If you were on the shoulder it was a free tow.

I got home the following day at 8:30am. My wife was glad I was home but mad I didn't leave earlier when she told me to. =)

They have blizzard warnings up for the period 3pm Tuesday through 3pm Wednesday (Chicago area). Predictions are for at least a foot of snow. Hopefully my work will be good about letting us go home early tomorrow and telling us to stay home on Wednesday.

We have a blizzard warning in St Louis right now. From what I've read, 1" of precipitation equals about 10" of snow. We're expected to get 2" over the course of 3 days, but StL is funny about weather. The worst usually hits west and north, and midtown and south gets sleet/ice.

I'm guessing I'm going to have 1" of icy crap, and 6-8" of snow by Wednesday lunch.

I've never heard of abandoning your car due to conditions and finding out it was towed. The last time we got more than 12" was when I was 1.5 years old.

...that's what she said.

About noon they sent out an email that our office would be closing at 3pm (the official time that the blizzard warning started). A little after 2:30 they came on the intercom and told us to go home. Took me about an hour (usual commute is about 25 minutes), and the last 20 minutes of that was crawling along the last half mile to get to my street. I'm pretty sure we'll be closed tomorrow, but they make us call a "hot line" after 6:30am to find out for sure.

How would the tow company be able to tell the difference if you couldn't?
I'm betting they lied.

Ice is still falling here...

We've had freezing rain for 2 days now... and pretty much the roads are very much ice rinks now. They closed my workplace and the schools today. Good chance they will close us down again tomorrow if this doesn't let up.
