Does the Dell Streak 5 need a data plan from a phone vendor or can I just use free WIFI spots and hook it inot the home network? Sorry for my ignorance, but never planned on getting any of these toys, but since I'm looking for a laptop for the oldest as I mentioned in my other thread, I could crack the wallet for another $50 for something for me. :))
Hopefully someone is reading these threads other than me on a Saturday night.

May not matter, I can't get it to show $99 in the cart unless you activate it with a carrier. If you don't get a plan it's full price as far as I can tell.

In a long line of talking to myself, This morning I am able to put it in my cart and see the discount. I'll try contacting Dell today about whether it works with WIFI or you have to have a carrier signal to take advantage of the non calling functions.

It's an unlocked/unbranded phone so it's not tied to any carrier. Of course you can use it with WiFi only.
