Scandisk never runs... even when I don't shut down correctly.

Do you mean you can't even tell it to run or it just doesn't run at startup?

I think we need a little more information than it just not running. What does scandisk tell you when it doesn't finish? Does it error out? Have you tried in safe mode? What kind of hard drive do you have? Do they have any kind of utility to check the condition of your drive?

I can TELL it to run?! :P No, seriously, I didn't know that.
Chicken- Scandisk never runs, therefore it never finishes. Safe mode makes no difference. I have a 13gb ibm deskstar or something. I don't know if they have a utility...

You may need to change the autoscan setting in your msdos.sys file to have scandisk run. Looky here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q118/5/79.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=msdos.sys&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98SE
Or, maybe someone deleted the scandisk.exe file. Or, your msdos.sys file is corrupt. Or, you should install Linux :P j/k
