So we have a public event in on of our stores tonight revolving around a twitter party. I've painstakenly added wifi, but our stores do not have direct internet access.
I REALLY want all traffic to go through our proxy server, which is normally handled by a PC through DHCP. Setting your browser to "auto-detect" and as long as DHCP option 252 is configured properly for wpad, things work as needed.

What does Apple do?
It defaults all connections to "proxy = off" instead of auto-detect, and if you set the proxy to auto, it wants you to enter the wpad URL, completely defeating the purpose of "auto" configurations.

We have people who are not tech savvy coming in and we really need this to be seamless for them. It's a PR event and because of Apple's deep market penetration, I'm going to have to cater to less security/monitoring/bandwidth control to make sure the event is a success.

To be fair, we're having similar problems with blackberries.

I'm open to ideas if someone else has a fix for this issue perpetuated by apple having the "my way is the only way" design model.

if no fix....then byte me, apple. :censored:

I just wanted to point out that RIM is even worse. You have to download a 3rd party browser if you want to add proxy settings.

Apple's actually ahead of the game, one where everyone appears to be way behind.
