My respect for one of my favorite sites took a major hit today. Report news...fine. Editorialize news...I'll spend my time somewhere else.
Crazyace: I don't know who you are, but can I recommend picking up a copy of the nation of palistine's constitution? Pay particular attention to the part about destroying Israel and its allies by any means unto death. I have friends in the US air force and navy-if someone locks onto my buddies with SAM missles, I'll be first one to vote to blow those sites up.

I have spent several hours trying to think of what I wanted to say when I replied. I didn't like CrazyAce's supposed news post either. If he wanted to express his personal feelings about politics, fine. But choose a different place to do it. Post it in Off Topic. Post it in Suckage. Something. But not on the NEWS page, where it is supposed to be about NEWS and not your feelings about the news.
It was taken care of. http://www.geocities.com/sbp7777/files/wink2.gif

Call me nuts, but the other news editors do the same thing ALL THE F'in TIME!
Just because you don't agree, suddenly he's not supposed to express is?
I agree the editors' opinions most appropriately belong in yon sweet OT, but hold him up to the same standard as LPMiller or Darth...

I would like to see this news but I can't seem to find it on the front page. From what the quote Bires posted it appears that it really hit a nerve, and that the phrasing or perspective of Crazyace may have been offensive to a bunch of Apexers. I think this is a good time to talk about this.
There is a wide variety of people who visit these boards. Although a combination of minds could be found at a diverse university, it is rare to find such a blend of diversity that GA has to offer. If anyone is up to it, I think it would a good thing if we could talk about this particular subject a bit more. I think that there are a lot of perspectives on this situation, and it would benifit many if we pursued it further.
I believe that GB fucked this one up. I think that he should adopt his own policy on foreign affairs and not rely on what the last president did to determine what he should do. Should Big Bill be in power right now he would have done exactly what GB Jr did. Whats the difference then if one president does the same as the last one?
The new Millenium is supposed to signify something new. It's time we grow above our unfounded beliefs of grandiosity and learn that we aren't that much different. For the most part we all want the same thing; to be happy and survive on this planet without being persecuted by someone or something else.

It's a rare occasion when you see the editor's opinions on the front page of a newspaper. Or on the front page of the CNN website. Editors do editorialize, but that is done later on, not in the article itself. And as far as I'm concerned, Crazyace isn't an editor. He posts the news from other sites and should leave the story as is. This is not a newspaper, it's a website for news, usually computer news. But when there is general news that warrants posting, it should be left as is. If one of the mods wants to editorialize, let them do it on Tech realted stuff. Post the other comments in the forums, or a news forums site.
EssDeeLoco - I'm sure they deleted the news comments when this topic was posted.

I understand that all of them editorialize a little bit. I am not upset JUST because I disagree with CrazyAce's viewpoint. I would be upset with someone posting something that blatently editorialized even if I agreed with them. All I was saying was that the news page isn't the place. I don't mind a little comment here or there about how they feel about a certain place, but if you can show me a post by Darth or LPMiller that is that political or more editorial than news, I'll shut my mouth on this...

Actually, I post my opinion all the time. I didn't see CA's post, but remember he is a young'n just starting out, so let's allow for the occasional mistake.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the Got|Apex news page as being CNN. So I feel perfectly alright in 'homifying' the news - If I wanted to be dan rather, I'd get better catch phrases. Besides, I think we hardware sites take ourselves too seriously, or spend way to much time making really off color jokes. I may kid about porn or something, but some of those sites get really crude - I like to appeal to more folks than 16 year olds.
I would point out that both darth and I posted on the iraq thing, and both of us had what could easily be considered opinion by my old journalism teacher. Fact of the matter is opinion will always color any news you see, if you think it isn't, usually it is because it's very well coached and tweaked.
May how I do it is different, as I don't get too many complaints...usually the rare comment due to a misunderstanding of what I wrote, nothing more. I didn't see CA's post, so I can't really say if what he did would be ok by my personal views, but I for one could never just do straight news without adding my two cents worth...
Having said all that, I always try not to offend...too much. Free speach is fine and dandy till someone gets socked in the nose.
This was the second news item posted by Crazyace that irked gotapex viewers. The first on Thursday had to to be edited. People don't come to this site to get editorials in news items. They come to get the news, deals and reviews. This type of editorializing news items turns people off. So this is about not alienating your audience. Darth or Apex is going to have to have a talk with Mr. Crazyace about this matter. Because if your audience continues to get alienated they will go to another website.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE CRAZY.... No it's cool if LPM had an icon specifically made for ranting, then I think other news posters are entitled.... Still I didn't read it, but perhaps rants should not sway to the personal front... Just a thought

I did make a few mistakes:
I should not have taken a stab at President Bush, I mean, he is our president. My opinion of going to war soon was just that, an opinion and I sited it was an opinion. It was based on factual information on CNN. Sat. and Sun. are days to post non-tech stuff, as I have been told. It's the weekend man, time to have fun! Mabey I was a little out-of-line, but expressing your opinion on certain topics isn't always out of line, it's called your opinion! If every web site strictly posted news strait-up without any type of flare, then we'd visit the same site every day! Mabey my sense of flare hit a nerve, because it is a touchy subject, but I didn't mean for it to.
Now, I will try not to upset anybody with any of my posts in the future, but I will not elimainate an opinion here and there, sense that's what makes the world spin.. There are several people who emailed me on the subject which turned into interesting discussions. Discussions are good. They keep things rolling.
Anyhow, If you'd like to discuss this further with me, you can always email me..

Ooh, yeah, that cursed IPMiller! Expressing his opinion again! How dare he? A public lynching is in order!
Oh wait, it's a popular cause. Proceed, Mr. Miller...
