Here's the easy way to troubleshoot a blue screen:
When it happens, write down the first three lines at the top of the screen. Write them ALL down, and be careful to get all the codes right.
Next, get to the internet (hopefully on a more stable computer), and go to Microsoft's Knowledge Base:
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/
From 'My search is about' choose your OS.
In the 'My question is:' box, enter key words from the error lines you wrote down. Start with the first hexadecimal number. If you don't get any relevant hits, try other keywords, like any filenames and/or other hexadecimal numbers.
Most of the time you'll be able to find the exact error message & Microsoft's solution (or excuse).
If you can't find your exact message and you can't get the BSOD to go away, you can always contact MS Tech Support:
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/phone.asp
They'll probablt charge you to troubleshoot, but they'll refund your money if it's caused by a MS bug. They'll probably also ask for a copy of your 'memory.dmp' dump file (you can FTP it to them). Then most of the time they'll come back & tell you it's a hardware incompatability and you need to update such and such driver. Be sure to use the most current drivers for your particular OS, and make sure all your hardware is on the hardware compatability list - here's the one for W2K:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/upgrade/compat/search/devices.asp
Also, for you overclockers - when you blue screen, the first thing you should try is to back out to your proc's rated speed. Nothing will blue screen faster than a machine with a processor that's too hot.
Good luck!
