Thanks to everyone for bearing with us in the transition to the new software. Please use this thread to report any bugs you find. Also, most of the features are set on default, so if you're missing any features, let me know and I'll turn them on.

Bug List:

Prngr44:
On the root page of the forums, I'm seeing the following at the top of the page:

FIXED

mcs328:
I would make a special case for the 4 marks in the Political forum just because sometimes things get heated and polarizing. There might be a knee jerk reaction to mark someone from opposing political views especially in an election year. Just something to keep in mind. Maybe a minimum number of post counts or rank to mark someone as a spammer to avoid one guy with 4 accounts banning a longtime member.

Leon:

Facebook Connect not working.

Leon:
Share to Facebook in both main deal page and single deal view not sharing the correct content. (twitter works though)

Not a bug really but on the Deals page. When you scroll through the merchants, the arrow is on the right side of the merchant name and it's pointing away. Shouldn't it point toward the merchant name. Cosmetic s***estion.

Oh and my post counts should be *ahem* higher than DF. :P

Yeah, the whole 'arrow pointing away' thing seems to be a vBulletin thing. It's pretty much everywhere. :|

We all strive to be as prolific as DF...

There is a reason why U G G is banned. When we were on the old vBulletin software, spam protection was pretty much nonexistent, so we were getting hit by a ton of spam bots. The U G G boots spambot was particularly horrible, so I just got fed up and just banned the word altogether. The new site uses reCAPTCHA for new user registrations, so it should filter out a lot of the less sophisticated bots.

Another thing I love about the new system is the ability for users to give other users infractions. If 4 users mark another user as a spammer, the spammer is automatically banned.

Good call. Now, users who have been here for 180 days and have over 1,000 posts can give infractions. Hopefully I set it up correctly!

Personal rant: the front end of this new software looks modern, but the backend admin is as archaic as it was 10 years ago.

Shenanigans!!! Leon doesn't have an infraction icon for his postings!! So It looks like I have to give a reason for the infraction too. So is it 4 in one category within 10 days or 4 total in any category in 10 days? How does the Warning checkbox weigh in on this?

This is pretty new to me. I *THINK* this is how it works:

The warning is just that.. a warning. It doesn't assign the offender any infractions. The 10 day thing means that the infractions expires in 10 days if they shape up.
However, I'm not 100% sure how it works. That's why I created "GA_Punching_Bag" for you guys to test it on. :smash:

EDIT: I disabled the Infraction Message Requirement. You no longer have to give a reason.

I just enabled another feature: User Reputation

This would be a nice contrast to the infractions. With the user reputation function, you can approve or disapprove a user's post. It's the star icon next to the infractions icon.

I'm guessing it has to do with the counters. I was unable to update them - I'll try to get to them tonight when there's less traffic.

So the reputation thing. How is this visible to every one? And how can we abuse it? Just like the infraction ability, say I want to disapprove of the post...does the post become fainter, bolder, pushed down, pushed up, or require some additional step to view due to low rating...etc

The reputation system is mostly used in conjunction with some other website features. It can be set up to simply be a vanity thing or it can be set up so that users witha certain reputation points get "promoted." Promotions can be as superficial as simply getting a few vanity privileges all the way to becoming a super moderator. It just depends on how it's set up. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it as a simple vanity feature. Ill move up from there once I figure it out completely.

Also, the image embedding via the "Insert Image" doesn't seem to be working.

Ah yes. Those numbers are quite inflated. One of the more annoying problems with the new software was that the login session would timeout too quickly, requiring us to relogin multiple times a day. We got sick of it and make the timeout 10,000,000 seconds. The side effect of that is that the system considers anyone who even looked at the site as currently on. Hopefully we'll find a way to extend the login session without overextending the cookie.

The embed images is turned off for now because we don't have unlimited bandwidth and hard drive space. For now I would recommend something like http://imgur.com/

Hey guys, sorry about the outage yesterday and most of today. Here's what happened:

Basically vBulletin's CMS loves to save everything into the database including images and cache. We were on a shared server space and our queries got to be too much that it was bringing down SQL and affecting the performance of of other sites. The admins had to shut us down and we opted to move to a dedicated server. The move took a long time because of the sheer amount of data we have (over 1 million rows). When bringing the site back up, the admins forgot that they had previously renamed the VBSEO folder to troubleshoot some problems. Because of this, when the site was migrated, nothing would load. By this time the original admin's shift had ended and another admin was on the task. He/she thought it was a migration error and tried transferring it over 1 or 2 more times over, which caused more delays.

By then I had remembered the original admin saying that he renamed the VBSEO folder, so I renamed it back and the site seemed to work... until we got another database error. That took a while to fix and when it was brought up, our dev quickly moved the caching system from the DB to files. Hopefully it'll be more stable now. *CROSS FINGERS*

Leon
04-19-2012, 03:51 PM
I finally figured out the server issue. All I had to do was turn off a single module.

Apparently VBSEO (a 3rd party SEO software designed specifically for vBulletin) and vB 4.1.12 (the latest version of vBulletin) don't like each other.

I still can't get directly to the forums. I have tried direct linking, which worked even on the new site until recently..

And I've tried the nav button at the time. I have to get here through roundabout ways or it can't be found. It looks like the error is because nothing is actually in /forums/ or /forum/ anymore.. Looking at this threads URL It seems to be at /public_html/ (Which isn't actually a correct placement for a forum.. So maybe they placed it incorrectly it in the migration?)

Yeah, the SEO is all messed up. We had certain things set and then we installed VBSEO, which rewrote all the links. Then we uninstalled VBSEO because of the issues it was causing and now the links went all weird on us.

I've noticed improvements with speed and with the search functionality for deals over the last week or so, and that is great. However, it would be really nice for the search box on the deals page to just filter the deals by the criteria rather than take you to a forum results page. You lose the ability to just scroll down the page to see the full details of each deal (i.e. you have to click on each one to get the details). It's better than it used to be before a week ago (i.e. search for "dell" -> see results list -> click on a result -> see thread with link to deal -> click on link -> finally see full deal details), but still not as pleasant as it was before the new system.

Hi, thanks for registering.

You are absolutely correct about the search function. It is not even close to where it should be. vBulletin's CMS is a little weird and not nearly as robust as we need it to be. We are currently looking to fix it and we are simultaneously looking into other options (just in case it comes to that).

When I signed in using the fields at the top of the page, my password shows up!?! It says it was a failed login attempt. If I do it again, that's 2 failed logged in attempts and my password isn't hidden. If I login using the form instead of the fields at the top, then it lets me log in correctly. Something fishy up there.
