View Full Version : dell dimension 700mhz $389 again
http://www.dell.com/us/en/bsd/products/model_dimen_dimen_l.htm (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=9eASk0x48lo&subid=1&offerid=27478.1&type=10&tmpid=211&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.dell.com%252Fhtml%252Fus%252Fsegments%252Fbsd%252Fchoose_dimen_l.htm )
subtract the usual goodies (those that say "subtract $x")
Only problem with this deal is that it's only for business consumers. So with the business deals they charge tax and shippping - comes out to like $550.00 give or take.
Not that good of a deal this time around.

Actually, there's free shipping right now as well, so you just pay tax. Total comes to just over 400 clams. Great deal.

but how do you get it down to 389?
it seems like i've stripped this down as far as i can, but still 500ish

Yeah me too. Lowest I got down a Home system is it $549. With the home system they don't give you that $100 off special offer. I know that with the Home systems there is no tax, but with the business systems they give you the $100 off but you have to pay tax AND shipping.
Almost the same price either way.

Ok - still trying to buy this. You need a Federal Tax ID #. Is there anyway to get around this?
AK
Make sure you choose it as taxable. Then you won't need to add in a Fed Tax ID.
ok, sorry i didn't do a walkthrough on this one. i was at work.
anyhow, go to http://www.dell.com/html/us/segments/bsd/choose_dimen_l.htm
and select 700mhz cpu, your OS (win98 is best here), and ms works. i would also do the onboard video but not audio and nic, so that you can use real periphs later. also select 90 day tech support. configure this system. should come up as $489. then select the $100 off, the regular 20gb hdd, the 64mb ram, the video ready w/o monitor, 48x cdrom, no sound requested, no spkrs, no modem, free turbo tax home and business (why not), norton av (why not), and then update price. mine shows $389.
also, shipping should be free per http://www.dell.com/us/en/bsd/topics/segtopic_100_off_primary.htm

tax is $50 too right? So then it wouldn't be $389 shipped it would be $439 shipped. Still a decent deal.
ya, i forgot tax. i guess that is the "business" deal

i'd suggest people to get windows 98 instead of windows me. a friend of mine recently got a dell with Me and it crashes pretty often. i had the same problems too until i went back to 98.
then again they might/probably release some service pack that fixes it.

The celeron 700 is a good deal, but you can do the same deal and get a PIII-933 for $519. I wish I'd have known this was coming last weekend.

anyone have one of these with linux on it?
dealcatcher has a dell pIII 933 listed for something like $500. looks like a better deal
Where do you see that on dealcather.com?

Unfortunately, this expired yesterday. It was the same deal, you just choose a P3 933 processor instead of a C700. It's a $130 upgrade. However, the $100 off and free shipping that brought the price down to this level has expired.
Cool - glad I jumped on it yesterday - I got teh PIII 900mhz.

You guys realize this system has no AGP slot so your stuck with that Intel onboard video for the life of the system. And that sucks for highend game players. I almost bought this but since I can't stick my Geforce2 MX dual head in it it's not so good anymore. ;(
