OK here's the deal. My cousin's setup date for DSL was yesterday. He got the self-install kit from GTE the day before yesterday.

I personally installed the NIC and the drivers, and setup the static IP address, gateway, DNS servers, etc.

The problem is that the DSL Modem can't seem to connect to the DSLAM. I can ping his IP address fine, meaning the NIC is fine. I've tried different CAT5 and phone cables, thinking that one of them might be snagged.

Well at about 6 PM I called GTE, cause the ISP told me that it was a problem with the line. The guy at GTE tells me that HE can't access the DSLAM's status from HIS COMPUTER!!!

Anyone have a clue as to what may be the problem? Other than the fact that GTE (Verizone) can't get their huge ugly rear-end into shape.

ISP's and Phone company's usually play the blame game like this. Bitch to them both till they fix your problem.

Surprise, surprise, Verizone sent the wrong modem.

I wonder if the telcos will ever get their act together. You know, GTE/Verizone has had my phone number listed as some freaking plumber's number? I get phone calls at 7 am on Saturdays asking for Bob Freaking Gillespie!!! Who the hell is he, and why doesn't he keep his customers appraised of his situation.

Anyways, my cousin decided to be a hero and try to make it work himself, now the NIC card seems bad. Yesterday, the card's activity LED would blink intermittently, now it won't even do that. I can still ping the thing but running a diagnostics programs shows that there is nothing connected when in fact something is connected to it. :(
