View Full Version : TEMP IS AT 289 F?!?!?

i get a new asus p3v4x mobo and everything seems to be running fine....
but when i run asus pc probe i get alerts about the processor temp reaching 289F at times. thats higher than the boiling point of water!!!
i dont over clock anything. everything is running at default speeds.
sometimes pc probe reports the voltages being off too, for example the +12 goes down to 8 or below, 3.3 goes down to 2.2 or lower, and others change drastically for a few seconds and then go back to normal. anyone know whahts goin on??? it usually happens when i turn on the comp. i have a brand new 300W antec smart power supply if that might be the problem. im gonna try and switch it with another ps when i can find one that will fit on my mobo.

i just got an alert that the -12V went to -3!!! thats a huge jump. at the same time the +5V dropped to +3.8. could it be because of the power lines or the surge protector? damn, same thing happened again while typing this message

Um, there's definately something wrong here. 284F would burn any chip! It's most likely a wrong reading but it does sound like a power supply issue to me as far as your voltages going down, or perhaps a defective MB? I have heard that ASUS had a bad software program in another forum a while back. I don't remember the specifics because I have an ABIT KT7 RAID so I wasn't really concerned. I have also heard of faulty Antec power supplies as well. Try downloading Motherboard Monitor (Kickass Proggy) and see what temp readings you get from that. It will also display your voltage ect... You can find MBM at Hardops.com.

asus probe is screwy when it comes to temp readings - possibly your chip doesn't support it properly either. try motherboard monitor.

However, their voltage reading is usually correct - I believe MB monitor checks for that too, so confirm that - sounds like you might need a better power supply. I wouldn't worry about the temp though...check your bios for the correct temp.

(heh hehh- he said "probe")

Anyway, the version of PC probe that comes wit your motherboard may be a really early and not entirely keen version. DL the newest version from Asus. Mine works great and I like it, despite its 6M memory footprint.
