I'm (finally) going to get some new RAM - 128MB, PC100/133, CL2. Which brands would you guys recommend?
- I'm looking at Zeus(?) from AccessMicro, but if I remember correctly there are people experiencing problems with that company.
- Crucial RAM. They seem to have a pretty good reputation. But is it worth the $15-20 more than Zeus RAM?
- Kingston RAM. Around the same price as Crucial, so I'm assuming that they're roughly at the same level, quality-wise.
- PNY RAM. They're slightly cheaper than Crucial/Kingston, but apparently there are some people who swear by this brand...
For what it's worth, I've an old Dell Dimension XPSR400 with two slots free.

I have had good success with Micron ram. It depens on what you are going to do with it. Overclock? Then you need to spend some more cash and get good micron or kingston. Pc150 is available to you if you plan on using it in a p3 system, or pc133.. Dont bother with pc100. Its usally the same price.

With that said...my computer currently has 64mg PC100. I want to put in 256mg but the deals that I am seeing (on-line and in today's LA times ads) are PC133. Would that also be compatable??

PC133 is backwards compatible with PC100 RAM, Kristina462. Although I've read that mixing & matching them might cause some problems with some motherboards (very rare, or so I've read). Also if youre PC came with 64MB PC100, it might not support 256MB chips.
Thanks for the reply, peeps. After some thought (and looking at my credit card statements/balances), I'm going to go with the AccessMicro (aka cheapest), and maybe get 2*128MB. I won't be overclocking my system (heard that PII 400MHz aren't good candidates anyways), and when I get my next system some time end of this year, I'll probably end up with one using DDR RAM anyways. :)

Helius, I just upgraded my RAM to Crucial so I can overclock. If you are interested, I will sell you 2 sticks of Micron Ram 128 for $50 shipped. It came in my system that I bought 1 month ago brand new. It has the MT (Micron Technology) tags on it with serial numbers, and it's way better quality than the generic stuff Accessmicro is selling. Just a thought. E-mail me if interested.

I looked the stuff up at Crucial's (htp://www.crucial.com) website. You can search by either motherboard, or model number (if you have one of those "brand name" PCs).

yeah it's a brand name Micron PC (Pent.200 MMX) I got three years ago. Yeah, I think I remember the term "EDO" when I first bought it. Jeez if it's gonna cost that much, I guess I'd be better off saving up for a new computer. It's about time anyway.
thanks for your help though.
