Ok, BestBuy and Circuit City and CompUSA all have 30 gig hard drive sales this weekend for $99.
The Staples in my area does not have any of the drives these other stores do, for sale.
Does anyone have a Staples that does? (online so we can use a coupon)
A $30 off $150 and then a price match down to $99 would sure be nice. :-)

The only reason I am asking this is because the online stores are area code dependant.

Thanks for the help in advance....

Wade

What brand?
My staples reports that they have the Maxtor 30 gig in stock for 150.

Hold on a second dude,
But why would you go through all the trouble of usin a coupon and then pricematching to 99 if bestbuy and the other stores that you mentioned will already have it for 99?

cause then you can get it for less than 70 bucks

i have never had a problem with any of my western digitals
i have a 6.4 (still running strong after 4 years, and i put it through hell) my 20gb is still my mp3 drive (gets thrashed constantly by myself and my friends. there was a period of tuime where it transfered mp3's for over 20 hours straight) I still even have an old 1 gb that works.

So do not trash my favorite hard drive company

as for your bad drives, show me one company that doesnt have soemone like you complaining about them. I myself dislike maxtors (we used htem where i work, had 5 die (no more than 2 years old) in under a month.

chalk me up as one who has a 1gb hdd by wd. my maxtor is about the same size and is good too. both at least 5 yrs old. now, the wd is a bit loud.....

...I forgot what exactly the news article I read had said...
I believe WD was bought out by another company and since then, their quality has plumeted.

I've always seen WD and Seagate as some of the top HDDs. But, the new WD seem very poorly made.

Just my opinion, you're welcome to it.

i love western digital, although i am favoring more towards maxtor because they are so cheap, i havent had one western digital to date that has died on me, and i have bought around 4-5 hds from WD. WD had a stretch where they had bad hard drives, but i think they cleaned their act. although i am favoring maxtor, i have only had 2 maxtors and both died on me, i RMA-ed and got a new one very fast, so that is good, overall, i think you cant lose with a WD, Maxtor or IBM if you buy a 7200. ig you buy 5400, i think maxtor is the best in that department. just my 2 cents.

Dude, if my drive failed on me i'd be sooooo pissed off!! I have a 20 gig IBM as my main drive and a 40 gig Maxtor as my media drive, If the maxtor failed I'd lose everything!! I've been trying to think up a way to back the thing up but i haven't found a good way yet. I could CDR the drive but thats like 50 cd's!

Get another 40G drive and do a RAID thingy? :)

That would be a total waste of 40 gigs :)

Ah well, the prices of 40G drives these days are making that option affordable. I've been contemplating buying another 30G HD myself just for that extra reliability. :)

No no no guys do not diss the maxtors. I have a dimondmax 30 giger it is so beautiful it's like a baby so fragile and yet when you throw them out of 2 story houses they barely break a bone... well bad example but you know what i mean

A 40 gig, 7200rpm hardrive for about 100 is good, regardless of brand. WD, Maxtor, whatever, will probably last you a while. I think DiamondMax is the best in this neighborhood, and the WD has good 5400 rpm drives w/ the 30 gig platter I believe, making it faster. But I shelled out extra for the IBM 45gig 75gxp and I'm glad I did. This baby runs smooth, fast, and you can barely hear the thing (sometimes you can't if the drive has been defragged). Of course, that comes with a price...

Did you guys forget Quantums? I have an old Quantum 12 gig that I've been using non-stop for almost three years now, and I've never had any errors with it.

True about IBM drives. I got a 4 gig SCA IBM drive(it was very cheap) and the thing is in my computer in such a way that its too hot to touch, but its still not failing or anything. And this drive is used heavily- got my virtual memory on it so its always in use.
