The burner on the http://www.gotapex.com/deals.php page from Staples for 69.98 is a really good deal, but the $30 rebate forms for Staples and IOMEGA both require that you mail in the original UPC code from the box. Can someone tell me how I am supposed to go about using this deal. Thanks.
Staples will accept photocopies of receipts. You shouldn't have any problem.

Will Staples accept a photocopy of the UPC code because according to their mail-in-rebate you need to send in the orginal UPC from the box. Can someone who has done this deal show me what they did. Thanks.

I couldn't order this using my own address since it kept saying it was out of stock. They offered a substitution but it was for a different brand and wouldn't have a rebate. I couldn't even order it to be shipped to a different state for the same reason. I had to set up a new Staples account with a different zip code to have it in sotck and mailed there. All this and Staples uses UPS here anyway!
Like i said earlier....Staples will accept a photocopy or scanned copy of the receipt. If you have a local staples store, then call them to verify. I have done this in the past and a copy is fine with them. If it sets your mind at ease.....then pick up the phone.

Do you really not understand the question or are you just acting stupid? The guy asked about the UPC code, not the receipt.

Do you really think he meant UPC code? I'm still waiting for his reply.
I've always thought that the original UPC code is what really proves you've bought the item. I doubt companies ever check for receipts being duplicated. MY friend lost his reciept to get a rebate on some CD's one time. I made a copy of mine and he used that. I had sent in the same receipt for my rebate. We both got it. Cause we both had an 'original UPC' cut out from the box.
I've called the Staples in midtown, NYC, and they said they don't take copies of UPC codes, and of course they do take a copy of the receipt.
I used the word stupid because of a lack of a better word. Not trying to be offensive ACE. Let me rephrase: "Do you really not understand the question or are you just acting doofy?" j/k

Yes,Yes,Yes...Staples will accept a copy of the UPC. I've done it many times, never had a problem. If you don't believe us then pick up your phone and call the Staples Rebate center and ask them for yourself.

There, I've even looked up the number for you.
I saw no reason to respond to you doofy. Insulting someone is hardly a way to invoke a response. Since your left-handed apology has been left, I will respond. I meant that Staples will accept copies of receipts AND upc codes. Guess I got ahead of myself and left the upc part out.

Hey now! Let's watch the left handed comments. There are plenty of us lefties out there that could be offended. We aren't really offended but we could be... Somehow... I guess...
But, if it means getting a stellar deal on a CD burner, we will overlook your oh so "right handed" remark.

To Mr.ACE,
I apologize for acting like a doofball by calling you stupid. If your fellings were hurt in anyway, that was not my intent. I just thought it was really stupid that you kept on saying copying a receipt when the question was on whether or not copying a UPC was ok. Making the mistake the first time seemed normal, but to make the same mistake all over again seemed somewhat strange. Which is what prompted my swift reply of "acting stupid". my bad

bad choice of words. :D

okee dokee. Look on the bright side. At least we got a couple of cheap posts in there. A few more thousand arguments, and we might catch up to Hapoo.

I sent in my original UPC with the Iomega rebate slip and a photocopy with my Staples rebate. I just checked the Staples Rebate Center link and found that they've declined my rebate since the original UPC wasn't included!
Now what? I don't live near a Staples so I'm forced to do all my shopping via their website.

Officially, Staples only accepts copies of UPC's if the rebate coupon explicitly states so, a call to RebatesHQ confirms this. This drive was NOT one of those cases, it was a manufacturer sponsored offer that allowed Staples to handle the rebates for their own customers as opposed to the recent Maxtor Hard Drive or Delta CD-ROM Drive offers which were Staples sponsored rebates. If you do submit a copy of the UPC when the original is required, you may still get your rebate if the policy on that rebate has changed from the rebate coupon (for instance with the Sharp UX-355 or the Visioneer 4400 USB in April) or if the person validating the rebate got lazy. It just seems that you are unlucky. I'd like to know who else was denied this rebate for submitting a copy of the UPC.

Do not despair, check the Staples rebate site again, it should tell you that you can now FAX in a copy of the UPC to validate your rebate. If it does not, it will say that a post card is being mailed out to you explaining the problem. In this case just call the rebate center 800 # and they will tell you to fax in a copy of the UPC, when you do the rebate will show valid on the rebate site in a day or two. I repeat, I have never been denied a Staples rebate when sending in a manufacturers and a Staples rebate.
Note: it definitely helps if you register your Staples rebate online before sending it in, this way you have a tracking number. Stlite, if you have a tracking number fax it to: 972-745-8803
Attn: Special Services
Include a copy of your UPC, receipt (email order verification), and tracking number. This always works for me. (And in fact if you call this is what they will tell you to do)
I have found that if I include a letter in with the original rebate submission that says "Per our phone conversation before making this purchase, I am sending in a copy of my UPC...." I have no problems whatever.
