Stolen from another board:

Just search buy.com for sku 10223701 . Then click on the "more" link in the description, and you will see that you get a free switch with purchase. I have deliberately not linked to buy.com, please don't make up a link.

Is this still going?
what's the difference between a switch and a router. I know this is kinda big for a home, but it seemslike a good deal. Is a switch a viable alternative to a router?

thanx

Seems Buy.com got hammered by a mass of people ordering this switch. Apparenty, they're seriously backordered.

Good luck in getting one.

If you go to SMC's website they are having a 2 for 1 promo. http://www.smc.com/smc/pages_html/sales.html and click on current promos

att gig -
A router assigns ip addresses and acts as a pseudo firewall in many circumstances. A switch is merely a faster hub, the isolates each connection. A hub lets all the traffic go to each connection, so one person can seriously bog down the other users on a hub. What is comes down to is that a switch is NOT a viable alternative to a router. It is a good deal though, and I know you can get a 1 port router, and then hook this switch up to it. Doing it that way might be cheaper if you have a lot of computers. I hope I cleared stuff up

hapoo, I'll see what they send me... they've already charged my CC, so that means they'll be shipping it soon...

I really only expect to get one switch, but if I get two, maybe I'll work out a deal with ya...

(if I get two though, I'll be really tempted to let the local LAN party guys use them at the lans... two 16port switches would be soo much better that one 24 port hub. reduce ping times by a lot.)

Those who check An@ndtech's deals forum will already know that Buy.com is claiming a typo as those who have already received their orders only have one in possession.

So many people have called in inquiring about why they've not received their second router that the exectutives have called an immediate meeting to sort this out.

Good luck to you all.

Really hope you get your second switch.

In that case, Nanotech9, If they only send you one, i'd be happy to do the bitching and take the second off your hands :)

After calling up buy.com csr, I was told that I will get one switch from buy.com and the other in a month or so from smc. Here's hoping. It is listed as backordered on the site now.

we had such a response to the promotion that we ran out
of stock. Our stock is being replenished and your items will be shipped

shipping method originally selected on your order, and you will not be
billed until they ship.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

I got one of my switches yesterday and the other one today. My apartment network is so much less cluttered than before. I took out a couple hubs, and am down to the one switch. Thank you buy.com. I figure they should be shipping the rest out shortly.
