Port Forwarding on Win2k Pro

I'm trying to setup port forwarding on a Win2k pro machine so that when someone goes to my domain name, it will request the pages from another computer on my network (A slow Pentium-200 running Win2k Advanced Server). Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

So what exactly are you trying to do here? If someone tries to go to your domain, say http://www.xyz.com, you want to point it to a particular computer? That's a DNS issue - you just assign the A (address) record to the IP of the computer you want to answer the request. Is that what you're trying to do?

Now, the more important question is why in god's name are you running W2K Advanced Server on a Pentium 200? Unless you plan on running with more than 4 processors, more than 4GB of RAM, and/or you plan on clustering it, there's no reason to run Advanced Server. On that machine, you'll almost certainly get better performance from NT4 Server. If you keep W2K Server on it, I'd recommend at least 256 MB of RAM.

Hapoo, I couldn't really find anything useful at http://www.labmice.net/networking/TCP.htm (but then again, I don't really have any clue what I'm doing)

I have a Win2k Pro machine with the cable modem that is acting as the router (this is my main computer). When someone types in to the domain name, I want it to forward to the Win2k Advanced Server machine on the same network. I was able to enable IP Forwarding in the registry on the Win2k Pro box, but can't figure out how to tell it to forward local port 80 to port 80 on the Win2k advanced server.

The reason why I'm running Win2k advanced server on the Pentium-200 is (i) I couldn't find regular server on any warez sites and (ii) this is the only computer I have lying around right now. :p

Hahaha! That's a pretty damn good reason.

I'll check into your forwarding issue - I know it's possible, but I can't remember how to do it... whether it's DNS, or some code on your front page, or what.

In IIS, you can specify a directory on the second machine... just run IIS on the first machine, and point it to a directory on the second machine. Map a drive & point it to the drive letter.

Is that what you're looking for?

no that won't work b/c i need to have IIS running on the server so that i don't have the 10 user limit and i also need to set up some virtual hosts.
