Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I grabbed this tidbit off of http://www.techbargains.com regarding using online vendors for pricematching. As you all know American Express discontinued online vendor pricematching as of Dec. 1 2000. Even I asked them back in November but this one fellow reported this:
Update: "I've had no problem using online vendors for price matching with American Express Blue. As long as you have a dated printout of the better price, it works. The only glitch I've experienced is where I've used a coupon, since AmEx will claim that the item wasn't bought entirely with the Blue card. However, mail-in rebates work great, since they're transparent to AmEx. I've found this gambit to be especially useful where the best price comes with a substantial shipping charge (like for a monitor). Blue gives you the freedom to pay extra for a deal that comes with free shipping and then pricematch." (Thanks John)
Can anyone vouch for this? Has anyone been able to use an online printout to pricematch since December after you bought an item? Thanks.

I was told at the end of last year that they would pricematch online stores with online prices, and B&M stores with B&M prices. I haven't actually had need to try this yet but it makes sense.
Of course, you could REALLY have some fun and buy something from like Bestbuy.com, pick it up in store and then pricematch online (if this is true).

I can confirm that they stil pricematch online. I just received a $200 check for pricematching an item I bought from photoalley.com to one that was advertised on buy.com.
They DID discontinue online pricematching, but they received so many complaints that they reinstated it without telling anyone. This is what I was told by the AmEx pricematching representatives last week.

They still do it with the Gold card, too. I just got back $65 on a Sony DVD player.

I just bought this http://www2.warehouse.com/product.asp?dept%5Fid=3437&cat=pc&pf%5Fid=MT3333&blind=no on my Amex Blue. Now I see this http://www.cstore.msu.edu/cstore/specials/655263N.html on another board. Does anyone think this will go through if I try to pricematch (I'm not in Michigan). Thanks.

I would think not, as the MSU is most likely a student price. Can't hurt to try, tho.

AMEX now offer BLUE for student. You all students (like me) should apply. I just have one question.
If I buy something at staples and then apply the coupon. Will AMEX look at the original price or the price after the coupon has been applied. Say if I order the new Palm IIIxe (which includes 1 software and ink cart), how will they look at it? I cant find any of this info on their website.
P.S. Just read the first post, well... So no coupon will be allowed for pricematching I guess or under some circumstances. I am confused... =(

What if I pricematch, get the difference check and then return the item to the vendor for a 100% refund?
Any ideas or am I pushing it here?

Seems like they dun have pricematching for student... not even the single use creditcard number... If it is true, I really dun see how much better it is from regular student card. Correct me if I am wrong.
Weasel: If you try to refund the item it has to go through AMEX again, and I am sure they will catch that it has been pricematched and deduce the amount from the sum. I believe they are not that dumb... Or they won't be successful today.
