Hey, im going to a comp show on sunday and im looking for a few quick recommendations.
heres a list of stuff im lookin to get:
-400w atx power supply
-agp vid card for my old mobo which claimed to support 4x agp, but had trouble with my radeon aiw.
-pci vid card as suppliment to my radeon aiw in my new comp
-v.92 pci modem with support for win 98se, me, and 2k (preferably NOT a win modem)
-affordable pci nic
-and a dvd drive
I also need a few QUIET case fans, i mean QUIET. the ones i got can keep me up at nights. these really suck! and there are only 4, the fan in the antec 300w ps, the one on the retail p3, the radeon aiw and the one on my laser printer. and the printer is really quiet and effective i might add.

just found out about this show and i dont have a lot of time to research what to get. any reccomendations would be very helpful. thanks

i've read some pretty good things about Antec cases (though i'm not too sure about their power).

also, what are the specs for your comp? for the agp card i would suggest either a geforce2 mx or gts. the pci, i guess you can get a voodoo4/5 (not exactly sure if the 5 comes in pci).

I have the Antec-SX830 case. It comes with 2 case fans and I bought 2 more to fill in the other places. They are nice and quite. In fact, I can hear my cpu fan over the FOUR case fans. That 6000rpm cpu fan is damn loud. :)

I have an Antec case, dont know what the model is. its black, with 3 5.25 bays and 2 3.5 bays. i think the power supply that came with it is really bad, but it could also be the mobo. one note on the ps fan, its LOUD. i cant stand it. i bought it because i have heard good things about it, but i dont know.

As far as specs for my system go, they are
-P3 866
-asus p3v4x
-ATI Radeon AIW (i want to get a pci vid card to suppliment this. i dont want to spend too much, but i do want 3D acceleration for the games that dont work too good with the radeon, so im looking to spend under $200)
-Plextor 12/10/32A
-a generic cdrom pulled from old compaq (im gonna put this in my other comp, id like to replace it with a dvd drive that works really good with clone cd.)
-sound blaster live 5.1 platinum
-linksys pci fast ethernet nic
-generic (read: CRAPPY IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN WIN98) 56k pci modem (i want to replace this with a good hardware based v.92 modem that will work in win 98SE, winme and win2k)
-300w antec smart power supply. (i hate this, i want to replace this with a 400w. i really dont care if its overkill, as long as it will run all my crap without giving me any probs. and i got a lot of crap :) )
-and a new case

on a seperate system im gonna put in the aforementioned antec case im gonna put:
Acorp slot1/socket370 mobo w/ onboard sound
Celeron 300/66
for this system i need:
-an agp (up to 4x) vid card, nothin too fancy
-an affordable fast ethernet card

i also need some quiet, but effective fans for both systems

thanks for any help

ati video cards have been causing all kinds of issues. The ati drivers have become buggier as time goes on. I have found with intel and amd that you must step down from 4x agp to 2x in order to get any stability.
try that and the newest agp driver for your motherboard.

on my old mobo, the acorp 6via96a, the radeon aiw ran at 2x agp, but now on my new mobo, asus p3v4x, it runs perfect at 4x agp in all windows os's. they both use via chipsets, so i think it was the incompatabilities in the mobos.
