ok, i got this 21" fixed frequency sun workstation monitor... its made by sony.. the model number is GDM-20E20... i didnt know anything about it at first because i couldnt find anything until i just searched for the model number... but yea.. everything i've just read about it says its max resolution is 1280x1024 @ 75Hz or something like that... i could care less about the damn refresh rate as i barely understand its importance to me... but yea, anyway... when i first got the monitor.. the plug and play crap detected what i was running and automatically took away any option to raise the resolution past 1280x1024... so what i did was unchecked the "detect plug and play monitor at startup" thing so i could go back to where i could choose all the other available resolutions... and now i run it at 1600x1200...

so my question is, is this bad? could i be causing any major damage to this sumbitch? keep in mind, i've had these settings like this for a month now and havent encountered a damn thing wrong...

it seems like a good monitor.. but of course i know nothing about the sort... can anyone tell me what to look for in terms of monitor strengths and weaknesses? i have norton util. and when i look up the display in the sys. properties, it tells me a bunch a cool stuff i dont understand like clipping, raster, line, curve, polygonal, and text capabilities... anyone wanna tell me what stuff to look for as far as what it can/can't do?

i got it free, so dont worry about bashing this POS... i dont mind... thanks :)

That should be fine, but your refresh rate will be lower and that will cause more flickering if you haven't noticed though. . . then you should be fine.

I would suggest looking at the manual and making sure your refresh rate is set right for that resolution. If not you acn cause damage.
