I've come across a couple threads with people complaining about businesses not redeeming the cityspree gc's.

It would probably be worth your time to call the business to make sure they're gonna honor it before you bid on it. Save yourself some headache and embarrassment.

Here's the threads..

i just used a few in san francisco. I can't see tem being a problem, since many of the restaurants are also in the entertainment book, which also have buy one get one free coupons to hundreds of restaurants

I have just read the noted threads in their entirety and will offer the readers digest version for the rest of you:

5% of the people claimed to have POTENTIAL issues (they called to check out a GC BEFORE purchasing and had some problems or the phone number listed for the location was bad)

15% of the people had no problem

80% of the people were just prattling along to hear the sound of their own typing. (Sometimes even I am guilty of this)

I am VERY VERY happy with the certificates that I have recieved. I have had no problem whatsoever redeeming these in the three resturants I have tried to so far. I am hooked on this site, I've ordered at least 30 of them in the past week......help me....must NOT get fat...must not eat too much...must go to gym...

CitySpree offers a FULL REFUND if a merchant fails to accept a certificate.

Like it is noted above, sometimes it takes a while to get a hold of them, but when you do, they are very helpful.

Hey, 'nerdity' is a complement, not something to be flamed about. Although, I wouldn't consider noticing a spelling error(even on a french word) to be qualification enough to be considered a nerd.

Isn't Caveat Emptor Latin?

Can I be a Geek?? - I have several pocket protectors!

Oh, sorry - Thanks for all the info on 'Cityspree'!!
I just found that site a month or so ago and am waiting for some restaurants a little closer to me to list themselves there.

The faults with the certificates seem to be misunderstandings or sometimes a bit of fraud on the vendors part.

Cityspree signs a vendor and produces a site for them in exchange for the right to sell a few thousand in GCs for that company.

The company soon finds that the Cityspree promo fails to bring in millions of customers and so they try to renege on the deal.

Another situation is when Cityspree becomes a bit overzealous and sells GCs at $400 apiece and the store freaks out because it represents a major loss to them (i.e. their merchandise is about $200 so $400 is 2 items free while a $100 GC allows a 50% discount but still maybe the vendor can break even)

Finally there is the issue of places changing ownership or going out of business. 50% of all small businesses fail and by the time you get around to using you GC they might be gone. I believe CitySpree will do the right thing and refund your money in that case.

I know in the first two cases they will because they did it for me.

caveat emptor - buyer beware.
latin.

from "caveo" irreg verb meaning to be on guard, -t being the 3rd pers. sing. verb ending

emptor - "buyer" masc. sg. nom.

yeah. four years worth, up to virgil.
