What is a good DVD drive to buy? Do I need a hardware decoder, or will a software decoder work?

Well basically any drive from panasonic, hival, matsushita, toshiba will be real good. And depending on your system (mainly proc and vid card) you will be able to tell if you need hardware/software decoding. I personally recommend hardware decoding. It's worth the extra $40 for the hollywod+ decoder card imho.

Whoops forgot about pioneer, they do make the best. Hi-val and pioneer are basically the same drives, so either way will be good.

Pioneer 106s (Slot Loader) to compare to my friends Mac Cube...
I rate it a 9.9/10
